Frm the moment we checked in until we checked out we were made to feel very welcome. Front desk staff were awesome. Room was well appointed, roomy and very comfortable. The only small negetive was that the dining facilities were closed on Tuesadys and there was a charity event on the Wed that necessitated our dning elsewhere or cooking for ourselves which was not a problem as we had a full kitchen. Also it is necessary to have a rental car if you want to explore at all as cab fares are very high. It cost us $30. to go a few blocks to a local gracery store.
Sand Castle is great if you want to get away and avoid tourist congestion. It is located outside the nearest town (Fredericksted) but within walking distance (it took about 15 minutes to walk to town). Their beachfront is great for swimming and snorkeling with several rock formations close to shore. I saw an incredible amount of awesome sea life while snorkeling including a sea turtle, pufferfish, and lionfish. The staff was very nice and accomodating and the rooms were nice. We were actually upgraded to a garden view room upon arrival which was a nice surprise. Rooms have tv, fridge, mini kitchenette, bathroom, king size bed, basically everything you need while you're there since most of the time is spent enjoying the beautiful St. Croix weather. I would recommend getting a rental car to explore the island unless you sit on the beach every day. As I said the hotel is a bit isolated. Cabs have reasonable prices but it adds up over the duration of the trip. Overall Sand Castle w...
Sand Castle on the Beach is an average resort on a beautiful beach. It has its good points and its not so good. The resort shows its age but that is not a bad thing, you feel like you are in the Caribbean of old, easy and uncluttered. We enjoyed the quiet easy living feel of the resort. The owners and staff were pleasant. Housekeeping did a fair job. Our accommodations were ok, the only major problem was that there is a water leak and we had to use towels to soak up the mess the entire trip. The continental breakfast was a disappointment, all carbs, no fruit, terrible juice, good coffee. I,m glad we upgraded to a room with a full kitchen so we could have a good breakfast to start our day. You will have make a .trip to the grocery store for provisions. The restaurant was good when it is open. The beach is fantastic.
We landed on the island after dark... Driving to Fredricksted after dark is really really creepy! The directions on the website was spot on, very easy to find! Fredricksted is definitely the old part of the island. The hotel has security guards and cameras so we felt very safe! The hotel stuff was really awesome too! The hotel restaurant was very good but closed Tuesday and Wednesday of our stay. Bruno was awesome! :) Ok here is my complaint.... Besides the sketchy neighborhood.... Our room was SMALL. It was on the 3rd floor (very narrow stairs). We had a queen size bed which took up 90% of the room. Plus side was there was a TV, microwave, a few dishes, and a small fridge. The bathroom had a nice shower but other than that was fairly small as well. We weren't in our room much so it wasn't that much of a concern BUT I never dreamed it would have been so small! Also the wifi only worked in the downstairs lobby. We toured every part of the island and this beach was BY FAR the calmest...
The hotel is located on the west end of the island, where the nicest beaches are. It is really beautiful, right at the water and no other hotels around! Their food is very good (even though the breakfast buffet is disappointing, they don't offer any fruit, and not even cheese!), and the staff is super friendly (except Sheryl, who is super unfriendly and even mean in a way! Unfortunately she is one of the owners). I love Bruno the most, best entertainer ever and always in a good mood! Also the ladies at the reception helped out a lot, even borrowed us their mosquito spray because we had too many of them in our room and sprayed our room out! They cleaned our room every day and provided us with fresh towels every day. The location and the hotel itself is BEAUTIFUL and we will definitely come back!
Hotel was very basic. Hot water heated by the sun meant almost cold water in the mornig for showers. No one in the small pool under 16, so not kid friendly. Sits right on the road, so traffic noise throughout the night. However, the beach was good and the water clear.
I loved my stay at the sand castle Highly recommend it. The restaurant was outstanding. All of the staff was super nice and very helpful.
When we initially arrived we were bumped up into a larger room, which was a great surprise. Our room was nice and had a small balcony. We walked out and the pool was great, the view of the ocean was wonderful and the beach area seems to be the best in St. Croix. The hotel staff was slightly stand-offish at first, but warmed up towards the end of our stay. The restaurant on site is amazing. My husband and I both manage restaurants in New England and could not have been more pleased. Truly a talented chef. Do not count on the continental breakfast as it stayed exactly the same the entire week we were there and only consisted of bagels, muffins and stale croissants. ---certainly not approved by the prior mentioned chef. My suggestion is plan to rent a car. We attempted to walk downtown and were discouraged from doing so once it started getting dark. If you are interested in a night life you will want to head to the other side of the island. Overall, I cannot complain. I went there to rela...
Upgraded us to a junior suite which was a nice surprise. The restaurant is only open four days a week. Continental breakfast included. Must purchase your own drinking water. Property is well maintained and attractive. In a neighborhood with many dogs that bark all night.
I stayed here 15 years ago and several owners too. I always wanted to return and am so glad I did. Now I can not wait to return. Nice hotel, nice people, good food, perfect weather.
On one of the best beaches on the island. Great sunset location and superb food!
Sand Castle on the Beach, though not Truly remote, has the feel of a quiet beach. It is truly beachside, the beach only a few steps from any room. Cafe On The Beach, the restaurant associated with the hotel, is predominantly open air with a good chef, full bar, and great food. Complimentary continental breakfast. Beachside patios and swimming pool. Rooms were entirely adequate and the hotel staff was helpful, friendly and polite. We would have no problem making a second, and even longer visit than our initial 4 night stay Having a rental car is useful, as local taxis may take a few minutes to arrive. (In St. Croix traffic drives on the left side of the road, as in Britain.) The hotel staff was VERY HELPFUL in arranging for transportation, scuba or other side trips, etc.
The ocean views from the room and all dining areas, the palm tree beaches, and the service of food and drink on the beach, pool. Entertainment every night, fantastic buffet breakfast abundence of fruits, juices, meats, breads and you can have a special breakfast cooked for you. The free shuttle ride around the property, all free activities, Kayaks, snorkel, beautiful golf course and tennis courts, food is great, there for 6 days never left. Family owned since 1947 , owner is great. No one could ever be disappointed in staying here. Want to go back soon. Only thing was they are not to quick with morning coffe, but vewry friendly, that is it is a perfect place for vacation.
Nice staff, excellent views, great rooms. A little dated but OK. Way too expensive for drinks and food!!!!! I think they would do better if they lowered bar prices and food prices. I think they would be busier.
You can snorkel, kayak, relax at the beach, play tennis, run and play golf without leaving the resort!! Staff is very nice and helpful and make you feel at home. Housekeeping needs is spotty and needs improvement.
The food was excellent, the beachfront very nice Very expensive for the accomadations, not really a 5 star hotel. The beach areas are too far from main building
Tolles Hotel.
Location is excellent. The hotel has been upgraded since my visit last year.
Room is like an apartment or villa Restaurant don't serve dinner
The fiery ride was lovely. Hotel staff was very polite & friendly. Especially front desk clerks. The beach front & View from my room was beautiful. The hotel front entrance water falls was not working & never clean, leafs was every where in the water. They should offer more night life entertainment for guest.
The location to the beach was perfect , couldn't have been better. Only a few steps from your room and you are swimming in the ocean. Picture perfect white sand and turquoise waters. very friendly staff was there to help in any way. not the hotel itself but the restaurant on the island needs some help.
Beautiful view, nice beach and a very pleasant staff. The restaurant on the property was grossly over priced,my girlfriend and I ate breakfast one morning and we got the cheapest breakfast on the menu which was a bagel and a very small coffee which came to $16.00, the breakdown $5 bagel,$3 coffee!!!!!!!
It's like being in your beach apartment no
Location. Our room 217 overlooked the beach and pool and waterfall and restaurant and bar.had a sink and small fridge and microwave, along with coffee maker and supplies. The balcony railings were a little rusty but can be expected so near salt water. Nothing
The property the hotel is located on is super. The hotel & grounds are not cared for. Suite I was in had a crack in the wall that extended to the ceiling & floor. Floor tiles need 2 b replaced; kitchen has no sink dishes had 2 be washed in bathroom sink. Needs 2 b upgraded. Will never stay or recommen
Great View and location. Poor customer service at restaurant and unclean bed.
It's like being home, fridge, microwave, perfect !! No parking provided, you have to park in the street
The location and view was definitely the highlight of this hotel. The room wasn't the best and seemed antiquated.
The location was great!
The cleanliness of the unit, the close proximity of the pool, the beach, the restaurant and bar. we did not like the taste of the drinking (tap) water or the bar drinks like pina colada etc. we did not like the long wait for taxi cab. total lack of public transportation.
The pool was nice. The condos were very clean. Unit 215 obviously has an owner that cares about the unit. Contrast was night and day.. This should really be 2 review--a 2 star for 208 and a 4 star for 215. We didn't appreciate the barking dogs at 6:30 am and periodically throughout the day. The office was lcourteous but unhelpful when inquiring about car rentals, which we just did on our own, or excursions. They handed us the brochure that we had already seen with nothing good or bad to say.
Our condo was great. We came with our 20 something daughter and neice. The 2 bedrooms and bathrooms were great! A nice kitchen so we could get some groceries and have breakfast snacks, etc. Plenty of dishes, glasses, and cooking stuff! Mind you the complex is oider but well kept. There is AC in the bedrooms but not in the living room. We managed! The pool was a few short steps away as was the beach. The beach was not the prettiest in St. Croix but there are SO many others on the island, if you have a car it is NO problem! We would go back in a minute!
Absolutely beautiful, immaculate unit, fully equipped and full unobstructed view of the beach all the way to Christenstead Harbor. This 2 bedroom/2 bath unit, newly furnished with the latest in Caribbean decor could not have been more pleasurable. Colony Cove is a condo community located right on the beach about 1/2 mile outside of Christianstead. Walk up or down the beach to a fabulous beach resturant, enjoy snorkeling right off the beach at the reef surrounding this harbor, making it calm and serene for swimming and sunbathing. The lovely maintained landscaping, herb gardens and walkways provide lush island foliage for your viewing pleasure on your morning stroll. Centrally located on the island a quick drive can get you to the Botanical Gardens, two beautiful golf courses being the Carambolla and The Buckaneer, downtown Christenstead for shopping, resturants and festivals and nearby Frederikstead for the open air concerts on Friday evenings. Laid back, no crowds and a must see...
My husband and I visited St.Croix and stayed at the Holger Danske for 2 weeks in December. The staff at the hotel was wonderful, our rooms were clean, spacious with a gorgeous view of the harbor. What was really nice was the location of the hotel, right on the boardwalk in the heart of Christiansted! There was live music at night and many resturaunts to choose from with fabulous food and drinks. I would highly recommend the Holger Danske Hotel!
Definitely I would stay in this hotel again. There are many stores near it, the hotel employees were kind.
If you want a basic room, no frills, reasonable price, then this is your place. It is convenient, being located on the boardwalk. The hotel personel were helpful and friendly. They are new to computer reservations, and had me worried on check in when they said they couldn't find my reservation. I showed them the papers I had printed from home. After about 30 minutes of my nerves on edge, I was finally assigned a room. My in room refrig froze my food. There are special towels for the beach, which they don't mention. The internet connection only worked one day. The flowers and bushes are lovely. I enjoyed the pool.
The rooms were basic, beds, fridge, microwave, TV, and DSL internet service (you had to leave a $5.00 refundable deposit for the cord if you didn't have your own) but they were clean and comfortable. We were right on the water in the middle of the action on the boardwalk and had a pool overlooking the harbor. The price here was defiantly right for the quality we got and I do plan on going back to St. Croix and staying here again next year.
I stayed here with my mother. There were only 2 rooms per floor, which was wonderful since my best friend and HER mother took the second room. We were neighbors and the only ones on our floor. The balcony, which overlooked the open water, was easily accessed from our room with a floor-to-ceiling glass sliding door. The balcony had a lot of space, and in the direction we were facing, we saw sea planes landing every day. Hotel room had a great air conditioner, a microwave and a small refrigerator. There's no elevator, which may be a problem for those with physical disabilities or the elderly, so beware! There's a restaurant directly on premises called Angry Nate's. The food is good, the atmosphere is nice, and there's live music on Fridays. The hotel is right on the boardwalk (where there are even more bars and restaurants), and there are spectacular views and a constant, wonderful breeze. For just $5 you can hop on a 5-minute ferry ride to Protestant Cay and a relaxing time on the beach...
I wanted to be close to the clubs in Christiansted and the Holger Danske was perfect as I was traveling with a rock band on tour in St Croix. Zebos is right across the street and the Brew Pub just a short walk down the board walk. My room was small but very clean! there were big fluffy pillows and a comfy bed. I would have liked a water view but for only $*a night I was happy with my first floor room. There was a lovely private patio in a relaxing garden setting. If I wanted to stare out at the water I just took the garden path down to the bar and restaraunt where the friendly bartender had my drink ready for me before I even sat down. The food was good and you could tell the wait staff enjoyed their jobs. I met many new friends there as everyone was so open and friendly and willing to help. I even had a mini frig and the grocery shop was just around the corner. Just stroll along to the nice boutiques and jewelry shops. Very few T-shirt and junk shops. Don't forget to buy your rum. I d...
I like the hotel, it was very clean, the staff was friendly and a very nice place to stay for the money. I will stay there again and again.
A reasonable choice for a casual hotel. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the pool is nice for cooling off, and the restaurant below the hotel (Angry Nate's) is a nice addition. This is nothing fancy, but fits the bill for moderate accommodations.
This Hotel is right on the water. The only strange part is that the porches face the inland part. Not a big deal when you consider that the boardwalk has benches.
I chose this propery based mostly on price, as I come to Christiansted only to dive. I really only need a clean room with a working shower. The hotel took some time finding my reservation too. All the info was on paper, and of course mine was the very last in the pile. They put me two doors away from the lobby (courtyard entry). I was glad to not haul my big suitcase up stairs, but I wish I'd switched to another room. I was about 20 feet away from daily construction noises...they are still finishing this hotel. They start working about 7:30 am because it gets so hot at midday. They were cutting tiles and wood and making lots of noise. I also noticed that the two 'emergency exits' (according to the map in the room) were blocked with construction materials and also gated and padlocked. One way out...through the lobby. And don't judge the place by the lobby...it's beautifully appointed with a piano, a public computer, a bar, painted ceramic lamps and vases full of giant artificial bouquet...
The hotel itself is very charming. When we arrived they had lost our reservation. Staff was not concerned that we had a conf.#. Staff could not find our reserv. but had us listed in file. Staff said that they were booked solid and could not accomodate us. After ''conversing'' for 30 mins. and promising manager would soon be there, I called online travel website. The staff person changed her attitude and miraculously ''found'' a room... However it was a room with twin beds, not at all what we were promised. We accepted this room with the promise that we would be moved the next day. We inquired about moving the next morning and were informed that there were no other rooms. We were told that it was booked solid and they could not accomodate us moving. On our last day, we were told we could move at 4pm. We stayed put. Why move at 4pm? We were checking out the next am anyway. If they were booked it was a mystery to us. We only saw one other couple the first day, and only a basketball team fr...
