My room was clean, neat, and suited my purposes just fine for my trip. The bathroom is large enough and has a tub which is important to me since I am a bather. The staff was friendly and courteous, helpful. I didn't use the breakfast room but it was full and active when I walked by. The only thing I had some difficulty with was the tub stopper. It wouldn't close tight enough to keep the water in. I had to put my heel on it to keep the water in. I reported the need for a repair at the desk when I left Saturday morning. Small inconvience - I would stay there again if in the future.
Nothing didn't stay after seeing room conditions. Stains on the sheets and strong smoke smell made us leave after we saw our room. Building was falling apart. Worst hotel I've ever been to glad I didn't stay the night. Wouldn't recommend.
Poor wifi remote to tv didn't work tv screen kept jumping towels smell
the Saturday day clerk was indifferent to another customer and myself during interactions
No iron in the room, but there was an ironing board. Smelled a bit. Sketchy dudes hanging out in the lobby from 8pm until at least 11:30 when I went to bed. Not sure if they were undercover security or if watching Netflix on their phones from the lobby is better than being in their own rooms.
friendly staff, very clean and good access to local restaurants smoking room, I am surprised there is smoking allowed in a CA hotel?
Fairly good location. 1) Ant infestation in room. 2) Small bathroom sink. No room to put toilet items. 3) Breakfast was terrible. Watery scrambled eggs, cold potatoes, same menu every day. Low quality selections. 4) Asked for quiet location and was put into one of the busiest areas on first floor near employee area, laundry and renovations. They completely ignored the request. 5) Was there over a year ago where they were replacing carpets on 3rd floor. The project was still not completed on all floors. 6) Was able to open a window to get fresh air, but there is no screen installed on the window. 7) Heard a story that a local inspector was threatening to shut them down unless they quickly implemented corrective actions. One gets the impression that the owners are cheap on preventive maintenance and only respond when forced to. The hotel seems busy, and so I speculate that they are making money and could afford renovations on an ongoing basis if they wanted to do them. 8) Very limited selections on TV.
Nothing this hotel picture on the web did not do it justice, will never stay there again................... Every thing
They had complimentary cookies and popcorn at check in. Our room was very spacious and clean. On the first try our key card didn't work, then after our key was reprogrammed we were not able to get in, the bathroom door blocked the entry way. The staff was super busy with checking people in and there was no sense of urgency to get us in our room.
Since my son started attending Berkeley two years ago, I only stay at the Hotel Shattuck when visiting him. Thus far, I've stayed at there six times. I have NEVER been disappointed in the accommodations. Admittedly, some reviewers complain about the price. But, hey, considering the location, accommodations, staff, and amenities, I'm not going to complain.
I've stayed here several times over the last few years; I had a flawless, enjoyable experience each time. This last trip they even held some rather bulky packages / equipment which had arrived a week early for work, without question. The staff is always friendly, rooms are immaculately clean, and the location (right across Allston from the Downtown Berkeley BART, a block off Berkeley's campus, and close to several good dining experiences) is excellent.
Conveniently located in downtown Berkeley, across the street from the BART station and a couple blocks from the Cal campus. Some nice restaurants and bars nearby. Very nice accommodations and this was the quietest hotel I've ever stayed in. I never heard a single sound outside of my room. Rooms are a bit small but still very nice and comfortable.
I really liked everything about this place. My room was very stylish, and it came with all the usual amenities. The room was smaller, so I'm not sure if I would be happy there if I had to share the space with someone else. I don't know if all the rooms are that size, or if I just got a small room because I was by myself. For just me, it was the perfect size. The AC works well, which I've come to learn isn't a given at many "upscale" hotels. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is right in the center of everything in Berkeley, so there are plenty of restaurants, drugstores, cafes, etc. within walking distance. It is conveniently located next to the downtown Berkeley BART station. I didn't have a car, so I didn't need to deal with parking, but I imagine it's not easy or cheap. The restaurant has really good food. There is plenty of seating in the lobby/bar area to meet with people to discuss business or have a couple drinks. I just really liked it here. They focus so much on helping each customer as much as possible, that several of us stood waiting at the check in desk for a really long time while one obnoxious customer waxed poetic about all the things he wanted to do while he was in Berkeley. They need to be more conscious of calling for help when a line starts to form.
Location. Front desk service was horrible. Room Service was worst. Terrible food. Had a hair in it. Oatmeal was lumpy Service was way off.
Every staff member I encountered was smiling and went out of their way to say hello, open doors, offer to help, etc. Very impressive!
Bar & restaurant were under renovation-- if I had known at time of booking I would have stayed somewhere else
Rooms were fine. Hotel was clean. Reception and bar service awful. Card keys did not work. A/C stopped working. Small, crowded lobby. Shattuck area is not inviting.
Clean and vast room, everything working as it should.
If you like good old-fashioned funky motels, you'll love this one. It could be anywhere in America, but it is a bargain in Berkeley. And the sushi bar which shares the parking lot is terrific.
That it was in the city of Berkeley. Filthy, run down with smelly rooms. There was an unstable patron who required an ambulance and several police cars. Blocking my car and more than probably scratching it. All this occurred late and was very disruptive to our sleep.
Good value for the money. Easy access to good restaurants and within walking distance (10-15min) from the bart. Great friendly staff. We got upgraded to a larger room (since they had the vacancy) for no extra cost, and also left our car there for the day (free parking) after checking out. Hotel is very old, and the facilities are run down. It was ok as a place to crash at for a night, but it's not a "nice" hotel by any stretch of the imagination.
The only thing I liked about my stay here was its proximity to various business: Acme Bread, 4th Street shopping No AC - just a small round fan hung up on the corner of the room, old musty carpeting with a film on it (had to go to walgreens to purchase socks to wear when in), old linens/curtains/scratchy towels, indifferent help desk.
Wonderful location. Grand old building which has been well maintained. It had been some years since I last stayed there and the place seemed in better shape than it was.
Nice pool, spa and exercise facilities. My kids had a blast at the pool - it was nicely heated and they enjoyed it despite the cooler February weather. Our room was below one of the hotel's restaurants. 6am on a sunday morning and isn't a great time to be woken up to the sounds of tables and chairs being moved. It's an old hotel so it's pretty loud. When I checked out they gave me a bit of a discount and said that when we checked in that the front desk should have warned us that our room was loud... they really just shouldn't rent out the rooms or if they do charge less.... but they'd rather put guests in a position where they have to complain to get a discount. Even with the discount if was an expensive weekend that wasn't as restful as you'd expect for the money.
Location - close to everything including freeways. Facilities were excellent -- pool, exercise room, etc. They treated me like a second class citizen because I booked not directly through them. Promised me a fridge and I had to find a facilities guy who didn't talk to the front desk to get one. Told me there was a free breakfast buffet, but then it wasn't free.
Stay was great wished new more about it before we got there to enjoy the facilities Food prices were a little high
Loved the look of the place from the outside..altho you quickly feel like an inconvenience being shuffled out of the way. The hotel is rich with history and has very nice decor..the room was big, with a big bathroom. The trexk to the room was ridiculous, having to take two elevators and very long walks on different levels while carrying your things. The room floor needed vacuumed, you could feel stuff on the carpet. After we checked in, we left to go get dinner and you can't get out of the gate without a special card given at the front desk. Well guess what- oh, and it cost $30 for this parking privilege.
The look of the hotel The check in staff
The Sunday buffet at the Meritage was very good. The lap swimming in the pools and 3 free hours of childcare included in the resort fee was also very nice and an unexpected bonus. Ridiculously overpriced for what it was. $26 resort fee and $30 valet fee on top of over $200/night for a tiny old room that wouldn't even pass muster at a Best Western? The room was awful - outdated, small, old, musty and generally uncomfortable. Noisy from the hallway, the bed was saggy, the comforter stained and 2 adults plus a baby in a crib were way too many to fit in a tiny standard room.
Staff was very good. Room service excellent and the pools were great. I asked for a taxi to take me to SFO. Instead of a taxi, they had reserved a sedan which was more expensive than a taxi. I thought it was a little bit cheesy. I'm sure that some people want to drive to the airport in a fancier car but they should specify. I asked for a taxi, not a town car.
Our oasis on the hill! The Claremont is a special place and I return there whenever I can; the location is central yet private and the staff is friendly, attentive, helpful and genuine. Each staff member, from the housekeeping staff to the manager, smiles and greets guests and is not only ready, but willing, to make your stay enjoyable. When there was an issue at check-in with the room assigned. Frank Flynn quickly and apologetically gave us another room with no question. In chatting with Fracesco (I'm sure I have not spelled his name correctly-my apologies!) in the lobby, we told him we were headed into the city the next day; he not only cautioned us about traffic and crowds in the Golden Gate Park area due to a concert, he recommended alternative areas to visit-and when he saw us a couple of days later, he asked how our trip went! A special shout-out also to Mohammad and Zachary who took care of us for breakfast in the Meritage restaurant-their service standards and guest treatment should be the envy of fine dining establishments everywhere. They made the start of our days happy and pleasant and really made an impact of the pleasure of staying at the Claremont! The charm of an old beauty like the Claremont is also sometimes what makes you miss some things you might find in a newer hotel; the HVAC system can be unreliable and loud, the bathroom does not have an exhaust fan, etc. But having noted that, the graciousness of the wide hallways and high ceilings easily make you overlook those modern facility differences!
Breakfast The carpet was old and felt dirty, the 'free' wifi connection was not working, the shower was luke warm, the AC rattles and the walls are as thin as paper. I asked to speak with the manager and my request went ignored. ---bucks? Seriously?

The price was decent. We ran out of hot water. Also, the parking situation was terrible. There is only one entrance right at a blind corner and dangerous. The shower didn't work right. The breakfast was not impressive. The heater did not work.

in a great location didn't get what I asked for book a one queen size bed room instead I got a double bed room
Cozy bed. Great tv. There was trash left in a trash container.

It was easy to find and near a nice shopping center with restaurants and grocery stores. Our first 'non-smoking' room smelled like a cigar factory. They moved us to a less smelly room, but there was trash under the bed and what looked like blood smeared on the bathroom wall.
The location was very convenient just off the freeway yet still in a peaceful and quiet location. Many food establishments and stores around the corner. The rooms were nicely furnished and the breakfasts were good. The beds were comfortable. The hotel doesn't have much of a street presence, so if you blink, you may miss the sign for it. A little better signage would be helpful. The staff was professional, but not warm or welcoming. I expected a few more amenities for the star rating.
There was nothing appealing about this hotel whatsoever. Poor customer service, ants all over the hotel room no matter how many we killed, false advertisement of a sauna that does not exist. When complained to hotel, all they could say was we've renovated which clearly doesn't show.
Keine leeren Versprechungen, solide Unterbringung ohne Komplikationen Eigentlich nicht
Freundliche Atmosphäre und Servicemitarbeiter -
Sauberkeit des Zimmers, WLAN Lage, Motel-Stil des Hotels, Parkplatz mit Zimmern drumherum
The room was large, clean, and bed comfy. Just what we wanted. Check in was a breeze, and the indoor pool was lovely. There was no blow dryer in the room, just a minor thing. And also no towels are available at the pool so bring some from your room! The biggest problem we had was at around midnight someone jiggled our door handle and tried to come in. I looked out the peep hole and saw a staff member walking around looking confused. our phone has just rung minutes before that happened, waking us both. Also, we had our do not disturb sign up but the maids still knocked and tried to enter early in the morning.
Manager's reception Tuesday nights. If you have considerate (quiet) neighbors on both sides and above you, and you don't want to sleep in, this hotel is fine. Thin walls and ceilings. Old carpet. Did not get room I requested. Food at the bar is average at best. Housekeeping started knocking on the door at 8:15am.
Excellent bed, television, cable tv selection, fast and consistent wifi, pool and hot tub. Trader Joes across the street to stock the in room fridge. Inexperienced restraunt staff, across the board.
Location,restaurant and room.
fair service and facility.
Luxurious. Friendly. Paid almost $700.00/2 nights. I only used it to sleep so it was not worth it to me. The parking fee seems too much when hotel fee is already high. The toilet paper is rough. They checked me out for a different persons room and when I called it took them a while to find the mistake.
Pool and spa area are beautiful. Rooms are very comfortable and spacious. Great location, close to freeway and BART. 20 dollar per night parking fee. Our room had a view of the kitchen roof.
The rooms were clean, very convenient location right next to stores and the freeway. Will love to stay here again whenever I am in the Vallejo area.
Room was okay, breakfast was decent. Easy access to freeway because it is literally located at the end of an offramp. Biggest complaint is the road noise in the room due to the fact that the hotel is sandwiched between a highway & very busy street, which kept me up all of one night. Tried another room on the opposite side but it wasn't any better. It is located in a not-so-desirable part of town and other tenants were loud, fighting and the constant aroma of Marijuana lingered in the stairway and hall. Not a place to take the kids. The one elevator was broken so we had to haul our luggage up the stairs.
everything was absalutly perfect!
it was friendly and clean
Staff was wonderful and helpful. Didn't enjoy the room at all. Won't be staying there again. Booked for 5 nights. Left after 2.
Great prices, clean, excellent buffett breakfast, good location, and parking garage! Loved our stay!
Everybody was very polite and made us feel welcome. The room was very clean and comfortable. It was a pleasant stay.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were very patient with us sorting out the various family names, who got what rooms that multiple bookings thru hotels.com caused. Key card glitches. Seemed like every time we left our rooms someone's key cards weren't working when we returned. Also, rooms could use a little updating, starting to look a little worn.
free shuttle transport to the shopping district and town
extensive breakfast, plenty of food friendly staff afternoon cookies, a nice touch free parking, a real plus room clean except for carpet near bed :((( the building is a little 'old' see comments on other side
Location is convenient. Check-in staff has as much personality as a cardboard box. Hotel isn't super clean and lighting fairly dismal.
We were thoroughly pleased with our stay. From the breakfast and lovely grounds, to the extra friendly staff, our time there was very enjoyable.
Efficient, clean and comfortable. Very well located for my needs. Good price. Staff very friendly and helpful. I stay there at least once a year since my older son lives around the corner but does not have space for me. It would be nice to have some vending machines/ice on the first floor.
The lobby obviously had been renovated. The breakfast was a cut above for that kind of establishment. When checking in I was told that I wouldn't get any IHG Rewards points for my stay. Apparently, if the reservation is made through Hotels.com, there are no rewards points given to the guest--the very person who is paying the bill and to whom the points should be given! I don't care through whom I book a hotel room; I don't even think about it. Hotel rooms are booked through some sort of intermediary all the time. That's how the hotels fill their rooms: they use booking agents to get their rooms in front of the biggest audience of potential customers--duh! The most irksome thing about this is I purposely chose the Holiday Inn Express OUT OF LOYALTY. Why would I ever chose an IHG property again when they don't count every stay I make, every dollar I give them?
I only stayed one night but it was very nice and I liked the breakfast.
Excellent service Room a bit warm on 8th floor
Really enjoyed our stay and the valuable local information from Victoria the lobby ambassador.
Excellent service, location and I would recommend it to others!
Spacious room, very clean and quiet. Hefty valet charge--but no other parking options (like a parking lot), which for a suburban hotel is odd and unexpected.
I really liked the breakfast, the fact that there was two separate rooms with a pull out coach was amazing too. Really pretty pond through out the hotel.
Nothing. Never been so frightened. Ghetto. Sent us to 3 rooms, 1 under construction, 1 pot den, 1 even filthier than the others. Absolutely disgusting.
Nothing it was horrible!!! This place is so run down and dirty!! Our sheets had drops of blood and were dirty. When we called for new sheets, a security guard brought them. The floor wasn't even vaccumed. It was so disgusting. Had to spray the room down with disinfectant because every other nice hotel was booked that night and we had no choice but to stay!! NEVER COMING BACK HERE AGAIN!!!!
My bed sank in the middle so that we rolled into each other all night. There was mold in the shower, wallpaper was falling off the walls and the refrigerator was broken and made a whining noise all night.
Nothing The security guard and maintanance guy beat up a homeless child. When confronted and forced to stop i was told they were going to burn me alive in my room and damage my vehicle. These empoyees still work here because they bully management and are too afraid to do anything about it!
Pool was nice along with woman at front desk. Room looked nothing like it did in photos. Very old television with no remote. Room smelled like an old apartment. Beds were somewhat uncomfortable. Carpet was stained and dirty. Furniture including tv stand and desks were dirty and had old food and candy wrappers on it. Bathroom was very out of date with a loose toilet seat. Location of the room was on the outer side facing a grocery mart in a "ghetto" area. Overall was very disappointed by room compared to photos on website.
The room was infested by roaches
100% times more than expect. Staff was great friendly and helpful. Room was perfect very nice and clean. House size bathroom which is was gorgeous.Pool needed some good cleaning and a new clean ice machine. Overval worth the price and more. Will definitely come back and stay here next time
It was close to six flags discovery kingdom. The toilet wouldn't flush unless you took the top off and manually pulled the cord to flush it.. the bathroom sink wouldn't drain, there were stains all over on the counter tops, there were carvings of someone's initials in the table. And the room smelled. We left for the day to come back to our bed made and our stuff scattered. We left early for another hotel and wouldn't come back.
nothing The hotel was so dirty. mold all over the shower and the tub was black. The sheets seemed like they hadn't been washed in days. we found hair in the sheets from like 3 different people. It was so disgusting that we had to move to another hotel for the rest of the trip.
This was by far the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Saying it is dirty and run down is an understatement. For starters, upon check in we were told the lock on our room was broken and could not be opened from the outside, meaning someone had to remain in the room at all times or else we would have to call maintenance to open it. When asking for a different room we were told it was the only one (we had a reservation, not a walk in!). Upon entering the room (that was propped open) it reaked of smoke although it was supposed to be a non smoking room. Nothing was clean. Dirty towels under bed, sticky bathroom floor, very stained carpet, blood on curtains, long black hair in bed, smoke detector hanging by wires from ceiling, dirty toilet, black mold in shower, lamps would turn on and off, ac/heater broken and unusable, spiderwebs, holes in wall. All bad. Only reason we stayed is my daughter was there for a dance competition and everything in the area was booked. Please do not stay here. It was dirty and in an unsafe area.
Nothing This hotel was disgusting. Stained bedding, dirty, nonsmoking room very much smoked in. I've never checked into a hotel only to turn around 5 minutes later and check out... But we did here.
I love staying at the Walnut Creek Marriott! Every time I stay there the staff shows the most gracious hospitality. I always feel like I'm visiting friends every time I'm there. I am very particular about the hotels I stay in, and this is by far my favorite one. My room is always clean, and the area is always quiet. I can't think of a problem I've had that the Marriott staff resolved without issue because I've never had a problem with any of my reservations, room service orders, or special accommodations. Oh! I can remember that my most recent stay was the result of an unfortunate situation, and the staff gave me a complimentary $10 credit for a drink at the bar. I know it's small, but the gesture was nice; they acknowledged how upset I was and made an effort to brighten my day... that drink definitely helped! They new I needed it hahaha In any case, Walnut Creek Marriott is and will always be my first choice. N/A
Good location to freeway. Decent rooms. A bit overpriced for what you get, but in range for the area. Valet parking only @ $21 for one night. What they didn't make obvious is that there is free parking nearby.
The service was outstanding The rooms could use updating
Hardwood floors, bath amenities noisy room, clicking sound all night, I was in a room located behind the elevators so I heard them running THE ENTIRE NIGHT. Updated hotel but I doubt I'd stay there again.
Gym Price of breakfast
Clean large rooms, friendly staff, near airport Nothing
Very clean Very comfortable bed and room Close to the airport - good for very early or late flights Convenient shuttle service to the airport and BART station I could print out my boarding pass for free on the lobby computer Compared to other hotels in the area with similar quality, it's very good value Complementary wifi had issues - the signal showed as strong, but I would have to reconnect almost every 30 seconds, and that's not an exaggeration. The device doesn't have this problem with other networks, so the problem seems to lie in the network itself somewhere. There is free Internet in computers in the lobby, and I would recommend using that instead.
Convenient locatation, gated parking. The rooms are tired. When you walk in the room its hard to believe that this is a Hilton property. This goes for the mini lobby in each of the satellite buildings. Needs a complete makeover or become a new company line called Hilton dormatory .
Proximity to where a concert was occuring.
Proximity to the airport and the front desk staff was awesome. It was perfect.
I liked the location to oracle arena and the coliseum. What I didn't like was the squeaky floor above. EVERYTIME someone walked in the floor above you could hear it.
The rooms are extremely dated, and have a very bad smell.
comfort of the sheets hallway carpet was old and the television was not modern
Eveything! It was really confortable and the environment was really friendly. Totally worth the money!
Very convenient to airport. Pick up and delivery to and from airport very timely. Hotel clean and staff personable. Would prefer to have internet access available in all rooms and included in hotel rates. Restaurant staff (waitress and kitchen) is slow and food is fair at best, especially for breakfast.
Pickup at car rental and transport to airport
Nice bathroom, had mini fridge and microwave, very quiet. Beds were quite small, room could be cleaner, quite expensive for what we received.
The bathroom looked recently remodeled with granite shower walls, counter, and floor tile. There was a large flat screen TV with directTV. The room had a refrigerator and microwave. The bed was comfortable. The location was good. The price was good. The room was dark and small. There is traffic noise from the street. Worst of all the room smelled sour and the air coming from the heater - AC unit was stale smelling. The continental breakfast was very basic, but I didn't expect much for the price we paid.
Would give negative stars. Dirty. Cum stained sheets. Smelled like mold and mildew. The guy working the desk the entire time was awful, offensive. Was like pulling teeth trying to get him to provide clean sheets. Awful. Don't recommend to anyone besides whores and crackheads.
Bed was comfortable Too noisy in the morning
Convenient, economical - friendly staff. Just what I needed for my stay in Berkeley. Location is very good. It is easy to get to by car and within easy walking distance of the Berkeley campus and other locations, including BART.
free parking leaky toilet, and broken vanity needed repair. wall is thin and can hear people talking next door and from level below. tv remote is low on battery and can change volume or turn on or off the tv. Room is dark and does not have enough sun light.
The rooms were really clean the bed was comfortable I was traveling with a service animal and the woman at the desk asked what type of disability I had which isn't something they are supposed to be able to ask
The Bistro We had problems with the plumbing. The bathroom sink gurgled all night long and made a gross mess in the sink the next day. The hotel staff didn't seem to care too much.
