Breakfast Staff were pleasant
So many stairs to room, was in the attic. Check in at VERY noisy bar. Room was tiny and no room for a chair. Bed was very uncomfortable and pillow was flat as a pancake. Windowsill needs a paint Shower is tiny but had good power which meant that I was almost stuck to the side of it! Staff were outside the bar smoking in morning.
Located near the train station, this is a hotel where the ground floor is a bar. The staff are friendly. The bar has decent beer and shows sports on TVs. It is a two minute walk from a lovely park and five minutes from the main shopping area. There are other restaurants and bars nearby.
The rooms are up a couple of flights of stairs, so could be a nuisance if you have heavy baggage.
Hotel very dated, carpet stained in bedroom
The room was very light, nice and clean and the staff very friendly. Breakfast menu was very good
The bed was very creaky and moved slightly when sat on. I stayed Saturday night and although on the top floor could still hear the music from downstairs. Mind you, it was a Saturday night so only to be expected really.
Its proximity to the venue where we were playing and the free biscuits. That is it.
This place is above a really noisy, really seedy bar full of gnarly, heavy drinkers (alcoholics even) that were more than a bit intimidating. It blasts karaoke and pop tunes until late. I was met with horror by a local who discovered I'd booked a room there and he said "please don't stay there, it's not safe". People booking this place need to know what they're expecting. It is not nice. Nowhere on the listing does it convey the atmosphere of this place. I walked in aghast to frankly the most horrendous bar roomful of rowdy, totally plastered people at about 8pm, and the girl behind the bar (who was lovely) asssured me the music would stop at about 12/ 12:30 but said the time the music stopped 'depended' on how busy it was. Not good. No manned reception desk, so you have to go into the bar and roar over the bar to the staff to be heard. She said it was unlikely we'd hear anything from our room above, and that the music would go only slightly louder, but it was reverberating through the floor half an hour later. She also neglected to mention that it was karaoke night, as I was lying in bed I could hear the drunkest woman in Britain screaming "heaven is a place on earth" into a microphone. Hell is a place on earth and it's the rooms above TJ'S Bar (NOT the Thomas James Hotel, as they'd like to have you believe). We were in town for work and I am 8 months pregnant. It was bloody awful, and I couldn't get to sleep for ages. Thankfully there was a side entrance so we didn't have to go through the bar, but loads of dodgy looking blokes smoking in the doorway outside I had to negotiate before going in. If I'd been on my own, I wouldn't have felt safe at all. The room was beyond basic, with damp patches on the ceiling, and the tiniest bathroom. It's beyond basic and frankly a bir of shithole, don't stay here. Save your money and go to a Travelodge instead. Over £50 for this room.
