Great traditional Japanese ryokan. Comfortable, clean and well kept by the family and staff. Friendly and helpful staff.
Perched on a steep hill. The walk up the hill is quite challenging.
Great location. Staff were super friendly and even drove us to the bus station on a VERY snowy morning - arigatou gozaimasu! Very close to the most beautiful public onsen in Nozawaonsen! Amazing Japanese breakfasts.
Unfortunately the onsen on the property was empty on the first day and scalding hot on the third and fourth days. Sadly missed after hard days of skiing. Luckily the public onsen was just 30m up the road!
It was quiet, clean and comfortable, and the staff were very warm, welcoming and helpful (with the use of a fun electronic language translator device). The rooms were cosy with nice views over the town and the mountain. The location was very close to both the town centre and the Yu Rd escalator, so perfect access to the slopes. The Japanese breakfasts were delicious. I was travelling solo but the facilities were very welcoming to families
Pros: Excellent value, excellent hotel, excellent service. Traditional tatami, room is a basic with a TV, a heater, a kettle and thats about it to be honest! But go in expecting this, and everything is excellent. Staff (family owned) was excellent and catered to our every question and request (where to go for dinner, where to go for onsens etc.). Location is 10 minutes away from the slopes (5 minute walk, 5 minutes on the moving carpet). Restaurants and shops close by (by far enough from the noise). Mattresses and blankets were very comfortable, warm enough to sleep through the night. The showers were very hot, sinks and bathrooms close by (shared) and the entire property was very clean. I have no complaints.
Cons: No place for you to shower in the morning - bath / shower only opened from 15:00 to 22:00. There are public onsens near by for you to do so, but just something to bear in mind.
Simple but well kept inn, a lovely retreat after a day of skiing. The owners were extremely hospitable and helpful, making sure we felt at home. The dinner and breakfast was unique and really delicious, something not to be missed. Located a short walk away from the Yu-Road and Shinyu Pair lift.
There was only one shower room available to be shared among the guests. Was not too much of a problem for us as there were not too many people wanting to use it during our stay.
