Food servers onboard were equally 'grouchy;."

Negativ: "I would like to add one more meal to the flight. I think three meals for 15 hours would be fully satisfactory. The boarding was confusing with all the different lines. In order to cut down on the confusion the staff should announce what each line is and organize it in a better fashion. In addition, for good measure during check in of the flight the extra security procedure should be explained; therefore everyone can expect this longer process and throw all liquids away plus have bags ready to be rechecked. In closing, these small changes would be ideal for a smooth transition and comfortable trip."
Negativ: "This was my 4th 20 hour flight with South African Airways. It was on this 4th flight service changed. Water was not distributed unless asked for several times or seeking it out yourself. Although food choices were announced, the attendant did not offer it . He assumed one selection and arrogantly almost tossed it. I had to request my choice which made him remove the choice 'he made' impatiently. Coffee was bitter even with milk added. Flight entertainment system did not work. On the first leg of the trip the seat I requested and confirmed was not given to me. A difficult website and app. Both not user friendly. When the email announcement arrived to bid for a better seating area, the cost choice was far higher then Lufthansa. I have upgraded with Lufthansa but chose not to do it with this airlines. The bidding began almost 3 times higher then Lufthansa. The aircraft and toilet area were clean. In summary since I will need to fly to Africa on a yearly basis, I am searching for alternative airways."

I told him I had paid for a window seat. It turned out that what I paid online didn't go through. The ground staff insulted me about my credit card not being valid, which was not the case. It was something with your website because I had to select the seat several times. Regardless, he gave me another seat 65A (a window seat). When I boarded the flight I was told that they gave my seat to a mother so she could seat next to her son. I spent the entire time playing musical chairs moving from seat to seat until the flight was fully boarded. It was not a pleasant experience as I was very tired and just wanted to relax after boarding the flight. Needless to say, I will limit the amount of flights I take with SA from now on. The boarding experience as very unprofesssional."

While we were trying to figure out what to do next, a uniformed airport porter, not one of the numerous hustlers hanging around JNB, offered to help us. He escorted us to a South African Airways' priority check-in station where the agent got on the phone. The agent and the porter conducted their discussion in a language I do not understand, however, when she saw me tip the porter ($10 US), she said something to him, and he told me that we needed to give her $20 US to "fix the problem." I handed him a $20 bill, which he slipped to her. Our confirmed boarding passes were then issued and we had no problem boarding the plane. I found this experience very disturbing. I will avoid using South African Airways in the future."
Positiv: "the gate changed and we didn't find out about it until quite late - we were sitting right near the original gate and finally realized that very few others were there; by the time we got to the new gate, almost all of the overhead compartment space was taken, and we had to fight to hold onto our very expensive equipment. in the meantime i had to unpack/repack my bag in the middle of the onramp while people walked into me. after our initial long flight, it was more than i could take. your crew was very kind AFTER i started crying, but the drama coud have been avoided by better communication up front."
