We've stayed at BDS many times while building our house nearby. The hotel is great. The rooms are spacious, the grounds are welcoming and tropical, the restaurant is great and most of all the staff is friendly and so helpful. My personal favorites are traditional Costa Rican breakfast and watching the sunset from the beach while sipping a cocktail. Make BDS a stop on your CR travel plans.
The pool and drinks are good. The beach is nice but not close to as nice as other beaches nearby. Most of the food is buffet only and extremely greasy. Even the non-buffet food is pre-prepared and not very good. They will not accommodate vegetarians. The beach is extremely rocky. Water activities are outsourced to another company, and doing anything requires reservations in advance and a walk away from the beach. Overall this is not a good value or experience as compared to staying in a non-all-inclusive somewhere else in Costa Rica with a better beach and eating out.
Breakfast and Lunch buffet offers a great variety and quality is good. A la carte restaurant was nice and service was good. Beautiful and well kept gardens. You have to book 24 hours in advanced for the special restaurants and for water activities (like using a kayak!) which is closed by 3pm. The pool area is loud and not very clean as MANY people seems to spend the whole time at the pool bar. Shows and night activities are poor.
We liked Riu, the staff was great and the facilities were good We were however, disappointed in the quality of the food and the evening shows were second rate
Water sports staff was not very helpful and we missed out on activities due to this.
Beautiful location. Beachfront view is fabulous. Rooms are clean & comfortable. The front desk staff are very accommodating. The all inclusive price was exorbitant. The desset menu needs improvement. The noise level was excessive late at night near the garden area.
Beautiful smaller beach front property. Would be a great place for a wedding.
Beautiful views on the coast, the facility was wonderful and had great service. Rooms were large enough for four of us to share for a week. The resort is far from just about everything else. It's a 15 minute ride to the nearest town and $7 per person each way for a shuttle. All the adventures are at least a 2 hour bus ride, or more.
The penthouse was just as we saw in the photos online. Nice room, nice view of ocean. Service was ok. Most pictures online only showed the rooms and not the rest of the grounds. Thought it was closer to the beach and manuel Antonio park. Had to take the bus or taxi to get most places. Felt like It was overrated for what I got in value. Nice penthouse room if you plan on spending most of your time at the hotel. Refrigerator steel looking silver paint looked like it was coming off. I only give it this review because of the overall service and nicess of the place and amount we payed at other places in Costa Rica were better in comparison and we payed twice as much here.
