My flight had a lot of empty seats, and I noticed they staggered the seating so that there was nobody in front of me or behind me. Flight crew was genuinely nice and helpful even though we didn't speak the same language. The little cup holder was actually pretty cool. There even seemed to be ample leg room compared to other Chinese international flights I've been on. I've flown previously with china southern and China eastern, so that is my basis for comparison."
Negativ: "They didn't give me boarding passes for both flights (had a long layover in china). Other airlines printed both at the start of trip. This added quite a bit of confusion for me, seemingly unnecessarily. Also, I'm a bit disappointed in their free hotel room deal for long layovers. When I had a long layover previously with either china southern or china easter (can't remember which one), I got my own free hotel room, a free meal, and a free ride to and from the hotel. That was a real perk for my 12 hour layover. The deal with xiaman is you get a free hotel room, but you have to share it with a stranger of the same gender, and you have to pay for taxi to and from the hotel. Although you do supposedly get a free meal, I chose not to take them up on the hotel offer. Instead I took them up on their transfers lounge. This is a dark, quiet room full of dingy, dirty padded chairs and people sprawled out and snoring. I would have stayed more than 15 minutes if there were more phone charging plugs, but instead I went and ate mcdonalds and found a plug in at the kfc. Aside from all that, I would suggest getting some better Hollywood movies to choose from, as xiamen's competition has them beat there as well, in my opinion."

Negativ: "I didn’t realize that Chinese transit visa is needed to transfer at Xiamen airport. When I bought the tickets, I wasn’t notified nor advised to get the Chinese visa. The Xiamen rep at Lax didn’t let me board first and I explained and they gave me the visa waiver paperwork. It was so much of hassle. I’ve laid over many Chinese cities via different airlines and never had any problems. Will not fly again on Xiamen!!"

I got this Chinese transit visa just to transfer because of the airport layout and that part was also didn’t make sense. They didn’t accept my middle “Y” on the boarding pass and it was so much of hassle to argue and finally let me through. Will never fly again on Xiamen."

The signage in English is poor or nonexistant. The overall level of English for the airport staff is very poor. One goes upstsirs/downstairs nunerous times. Because the second portion of WF858 is domestic flight, the passenger needs to exit the terminal and re-enter as an international passenger. Numerous security and passport lines. I found the movie selection to be poor with few non-violent movies available. Will not fly this route again."

Entertainment video screen doesn’t adjust; in other words, it cannot be adjust in angle, causing neck pain over time. Meals are average, definitely different from the quality compared to regional or domestic equivalent. Very sad, considering that Xiamen Air has a good reputation inside China. The restroom is also poorly stocked — no toilet roll constantly"

Crew needs to be more proactive with (1) passengers getting up too early and blocking the aisle out of turn. An elder woman was trying to get her bags and exit her row and passengers from behind were not letting her collect and exit. I stopped the rude people from the back who were getting off out of turn. Instructions need to be issued, let people get off the plane in orderly fashion. and (2) crew did not inform passengers what was happening with immigration and customs holdings things up until I hit the service button a few times. Tell the passengers what is going on rather than allow tempers to heat up"

Calling the agency Lastminute.com that had sold the ticket was not helpful either - they stated that they had no control over the ticket in the last 24h prior to departure and were unable to provide any assistance and no information how to activate the insurance purchased prior. Very dissatisfying experience. I take over 50 flights a year - worst assistance experience ever."

People started turning up, crying and writing last words. However, your crew members GAVE NO INSTRUCTIONS, BROADCASTING OR UPDATES ON WHATS GOING ON. What they did was mocking around with each other in Cantonese. 3. This would be my last time travel with you - I was your loyal customer since student time. But after this awful experience I chose not to go with you anymore."

Negativ: "Diesen Flug habe ich auf Grund des vorangegangenen verspäteten Fluges versäumt. Leider habe ich weder eine Erklärung noch eine Entschuldigung erhalten, sondern musste mein Gebäck neu einchecken und war alles in Allem über 30 Stunden unterwegs. When I got off at Shuangliu airport From CA 4120 at 23:50pm, there was no airport bus to transfer me from T2 to T1 international Departure at Chengdu Shuangliu. I have to run in the dark nearly 2 km to catch 1:20 am CA 429 to Sydney Australia. Really bad international service in Chengdu Shuangliu!!"

Despite the extra passengers from the delayed flight the plane still had a few empty seats and I was able to take an exit seat for extra legroom (I'm 6'5"), although I will still upgrade in future."

There was more than 50% first class seats unfilled, good news for investors. On the tv monitor we were watching our final approach as we bypassed the airport and made three 360 degree turns 50 miles out for 30 minutes and not one word from the Captain what was happening, very nerve racking. Never fly Air China again!"
