Second, The eToll was hidden and activated to trick you into not realizing that you are going to get charged 3.95 for toll and everyday that you have the car. WHY it was hidden behind the mirror and turned is beyond fair customer service. They put a note on the seat but in Florida we use Sunpass -not eToll, so it didn't dawn on me they were one and the same. By the time you got to the toll plaza to pay you were charged, I wanted to pay cash but it was too late "they said" So the right thing to do is call it what it is (Sunpass), tell us where it is (hidden behind the review mirror and have it off.

Misleading Positiv: Inside a Sears Service Center. Opened at 8am sharp.Negativ: I reserved a compact car (Ford Fusion or similar), they gave me a Fiesta, subcompact, but still chraged for the compact. There were very limited choises in this lot.

Upgrade scamPositiv: Fast check-in and drop off was easyNegativ: The agent who checked us in said if we didn't up grade for an additional $5.00 a day, we would get a small sub-compact car. We needed to pay more for a bigger car, a Kia--something similar to a Chevy Malibu. When I looked at our reservation, I had reserved an intermediate car, so we should not have had to pay for the upgrade. I am going to call to see if we can get that amount refunded. Car did not have a USB outlet for our phone.

Schedule changes were easy onlinePositiv: I was able to easily adjust my schedule online via he Budget website. I had to ultimately cancel my reservation 24 hours from my pick-up time and was not charged any fee.

Positiv: Hardly anything.Negativ: Return areas are poorly marked. "Avis" and "Budget" share the same spots but that is not at all discernible from a distance because the Avis lettering is big and bright red, the Budget lettering on the same parking signs are much smaller than the large Avis lettering and a light blue with little contrast. Spent several minutes looking for a separate "Budget" area then finally decided to call the desk and ask where I was supposed to park. The phone rang on for many minutes with no answer. Finally I walked in and found 3 people at the desk doing nothing and asked why no one answered the phone. There were no other customers at the desk. Excuses were first there 'was no phone call" then I dialed the number while there and it rang in the "back room". I could hear it. The excuse turned to "we don't always hear it". Why does the phone ring in the "back room", I asked? Of the 2 males (there was one female who conducted herself properly), one at the desk said something to the effect of "who cares" and became surly and unprofessional. The Budget desk at the Melbourne airport became an unbelievably bad experience. Person should be fired.
Positiv: At least the car was there. Negativ: I had previously dropped off a car at the Melbourne airport a week prior without any issues. But when I picked up this car on the 10th, apparently it was at another location 3 miles down the road (Sears).
What irritated me was when I picked up the car nothing was said and the agent charged me double the expected rate. Once I had walked out to the car and figured out the doubled rate, they informed me that rate was down the street at the Sears location. Why wasn't this brought up at the time of pickup. Guess I need to be more aware of the budget practices.

No unlimited milesNegativ: Booked on kayak a mini van with unlimited miles. Arrived at counter and van not available but given a equivalent SUV. Then told that this location does not give unlimited mileage, apparently there is some fine print that says not all locations honor unlimited mileage, but you won't know until you get there to pick up. This is an important feature of any car rental deal and should be definitively disclosed not part of a bait and switch tactic.

Positiv: The people who work there are terrific. Pleasant and efficient. Although it's not on the airport grounds, it's so close that a phone call to them means you'll be in their van within 10 minutes.Negativ: There was a residual smell of cigarette smoke (though it's prohibited by their conditions statement). It was only apparent after the car had been shut for a number of hours, and dissipated easily by driving with the windows open for a short while.
Negativ: Service center was overwhelmed both at pick up and drop off. Vehicle selection was poor at pick up.

Negativ: The car was advertised to be located at the Hertz counter in the airport. It was not. It was 3 miles away. That was inconvenient and I had to arrange for my own transportation to and from the Hertz counter back to the airport. Hertz would not offer to take me to the other counter either. It was false advertising and I will not use Hertz or Kayak again. I was attending a funeral in Melbourne and did not welcome the hassle this caused.

Easy inexpensive car rentalPositiv: Renting a car outside of the airport was much less expensive. This rental car was at a car dealership toward the back garage area. Staff was really helpful and even recommended a few things to check out locally, which we appreciated. Car was clean, simple (Ford, Escort) good gas milage and got the job done. They even gave us a ride to the airport so we didn't have the hassle of a taxi. Great experience!

Over the top comfort and gas mileage.Positiv: This 2017 Nissan Altima provided all the comfort and luxury I wanted for the trip across the state. Fuel efficiency was fabulous..one tank to drive 515 miles....pleasant surprise.Negativ: I did not appreciate the price difference between online quote and actual charges. It was explained to me by the rental agent that the website could not give an accurate price since "it did not know exact taxes and fees," for the location which really sounds really hooey to me. We are in the computer age where large volumes of data are transmitted in nanoseconds. I will not use Kayak for booking rentals again. The lack of transparency is a game changer for me.

Avoid this branch at all costsNegativ: With no notice of any kind, I discovered at the checkout desk that this franchise caps mileage at 150 miles/day, and does not allow travel outside the state. I have not run across such limitations in more than a decade because it simply isn't done anymore. Because I don't know what other franchises might be allowed to operate under such non-standard rules, I will not rent again from Thrifty. This foolishness cost me $150 because I had to then get a car from another company but without a reservation.
Don't Believe A Good Deal When You See OnePositiv: NothingNegativ: The fact that on hotwire i was offered unlimited miles, and when i went to pick up the car i was told that since i live in FL and dont have a return airfare ticket that i would only have 150 miles and any additional miles were going to be 23 cents per mile. On top of that the wanted additional insurance, apart from the one i already had paid for through Alliance. So my deal of 48.00 dollars unlimited miles,with insurance..did not end that way it would have been over 150 dollars if i had to go to Miami for the day. Never again....

Negativ: The customer service , the smell of the car was horrible , the capped mileage that was different than what my wife reserved online, the inability to return the car to a different Thrifty location at the Orlando Airport 45 miles away. I will never rent from them again and as a retired USAF veteran and constant traveler thats saying a lot.
