not charged for the correct # of daysNegativ: The checkout employee kept trying to upsell me and I didn't want any other services, insurance, meanwhile it took way too long to checkout my car. She suggested another type of car and next time I'll ask to see both cars because the last time I rented with the same type of car I got a great new car with all of the new features (backup camera, Sirius radio, navigation, etc),. this time the car didn't even have alarm/remote access key feature, basic radio, etc. When I rented the car online they didn't charge me for the correct # of days as I was dropping off the car after the time I picked it up, making it a day over the daily fee charge; they charged me for the normal day rental for 4 hours extra and the daily charge was twice what I paid for in my rental daily charge. When I arrived back to the airport nobody was in the lot and I could see the attendant in the office, but I had to wave to get his attention. Not great service and not a great value for the car I ended up with. Won't rent from them again.

Drop off was excellent too, fasts and rep was really friendly.Negativ: On arrival/pickup we did not have a good interaction with the rep. He was very confusing, stating that our vehicle did not have 4wd and wanted to upgrade me and charge me more. This was frustrating as I had called prior to booking to try to secure a 4wd vehicle. I decided against the additional upgrade and he still wanted to charge me more $ even though I had already prepaid and looked at me like I was crazy when I told him he prepaid. Fortunately we got in the car and there was a 4wd function as had been advertised.
Less than promised- not a Toyota RAV4 but a 2WD JePositiv: When our car was unsafe to make it over the mountain pass in snow, a local Enterprise dealer allowed us to drop it off without crossing the mountains. He suggested that we might get a more snow-worthy vehicle from Enterprise, but we did not pursue that and found alternate transportation. Negativ: We expected and needed a 4WD SUV. The car provided at Sacramento was not that, and getting the type of vehicle we expected required an upgrade. So we took what was provided. But when it was time to return the car, the mountain passes required either 4WD or chains and we did not have that. Our rental was billed as RAV4 or "similar"..but similar meant just another vehicle of similar size, not one that performs as well.
Positiv: The car was nice and the price affordable. It was only a short shuttle from the airport. The people at the drop-off were also super nice. Negativ: The pickup was not pleasant. My flight had been delayed for four hours and I was sick, so I was exhausted and not feeling well when I arrived since I also had not eaten much all day. I was told the car was going to be driven around the side of the building for me to pick up. They handed me the keys, told me it was some kind of Nissan and didn't say the color or anything. I walked around the side of the building and a BUNCH of cars had been driven up, including a Nissan that was not my car. I couldn't find my car. I had to walk back around the building and the counter staff seemed annoyed I needed help. I was almost in tears at this point because I was so tired. I just needed a little help and kindness. It turned out the car had not been driven up and was across the parking lot. The guy walked me halfway too it then handed me the keys and made a vague gesture before turning back to the building without a word.
Staff at Location Was Great, Phone Support Not So Positiv: My flight got delayed past the time they were supposed to close. Some of the other rental places in the same building were closed and people weren't able to get their vehicles. Alamo stayed open at least an hour past closing time to help out, and if they minded staying late for work I would have never noticed. Very friendly, great service.Negativ: The phone support was pretty poor. The first lady I talked to before my flight left was friendly and polite, but all she could tell me was "They usually stay open if flights are delayed, but it's Friday night, so it depends..." What does that even mean? Anyway, she said she'd put a note on my rental saying that I'd be arriving late, and she told me to call back as soon as I got in.
I called Alamo's main support number again as soon as I landed, but the guy on the phone insisted that they'd be closed since it was a little after their listed closing time. I already knew their listed closing time, I explained, but the lady I talked to before my flight had said they would probably stay open a little later so maybe he could check for me? He gave me a number for the local branch so I could try to call them (apparently he couldn't put me on hold and do it himself because that would've been too helpful). It rang through to voice mail twice, but the message didn't mention Alamo at all. I assume he gave me the wrong number, or maybe I wrote it down wrong (it wouldn't have mattered if he'd just called them for me like a decent customer service person would do).
So now I was pretty sure I was screwed. I called back to the main number and got the same guy, and he was totally unhelpful again. All I wanted at that point was anything helpful about what I could do if they were closed (could I cancel, get a discount, sleep on the floor in the rentals building, or what?), but the only thing he told me was "you can go there tomorrow morning when they open."
Even if he couldn't help, a little bit of understanding or politeness would've been great, but no such luck. Maybe if I'm being generous it wasn't the worst customer service I've ever had, but if so it wasn't by much.
Thankfully the guy didn't know what the hell he was talking about and they were still open so it didn't matter.

I had to end up having my bf help drive my car back to his house while I drove the rental there to go pick him up for our drive together in the rental car. A bit inconvenient, but I understand the situation. Wish it would have been made clear before I showed up so I wouldn't have been so inconvenienced. I also ended up getting a Lyft ride for my ride back home after I dropped off the rental car. More money out of my pocket :-(

Didn't receive the deal I reservedPositiv: When I reserved this car, I wanted to pickup at the Sacramento airport and drop-off in chico. That's what I selected, but when I got to Sacramento airport, my reservation was not there and was actually at a different location off the airport. I would of had to take a cab to get there. So instead of my 77 dollar rental, I had to take a car for 120 dollars.
After one day of use, I decided to turn it in early because it wasn't the deal I signed up for. Negativ: Not getting the deal I reserved online
Negativ: Price drastically changed because if location change. We could not speak to a manager to understand why this price change occurred. We felt taken advantage of and strong armed into the price. Cleanly a bate and switch tactic.

Customer experience awfulNegativ: I never fill things things out because I know travel services are dependent on so many uncontrollable variables, it is unfair to judge just one link in the chain. However, the customer experience with Budget at Sacramento airport is simply awful. Shuttle to off-site location took 30 minutes to arrive with a line of perhaps 60 people waiting for shuttling, it took an hour to get the car, the staff were disorganized, and the process for processing to car hand-off was sloppy. I won't be taking a rental car from Sac again anytime soon.

Look carefully at your bill....Negativ: I was charged for a full tank of gas, when I returned the car with a FULL tank. When I brought the car back, I was given a receipt. Often I do not even look at the receipt and just shove into my purse. This time, I looked and was surprised when the cost was $20 more than I expected. I looked closer and saw that I had been charged for a full tank of gas. I immediately asked the agent and he mumbled something about the charge being automatically inputted. I had to wait to have the charge removed. Not sure whether that is a scam just to get money out of unsuspecting customers or whether it was an honest mistake. Just beware!
Mixed experience Positiv: I could not book online with the AARP discount so finally called. It cost me $10 extra. They didn't have a car at the appointment time so the counter guy called me 45 minutes later and said he had a car. Turns out he gave me an ugrade so I wouldn't have to wait any longer. He was great. Marika at Sacramento Int'l Airport location was FANTASTICPositiv: When I didn't have a credit card for my rental, Marika contacted the Sacramento Downtown Budget office, arranged for a rental and helped me get an Uber to get there (I already had an app), she told the driver where to pick me up, and THEN SHE CALLED THE SACRAMENTO OFFICE TO MAKE SURE I GOT THERE!!!!!!! GREAT SERVICE!!!!!

Also the return was very quick in Reno.Negativ: Only thing I didn’t like was that when I rented online through Kayak, Kayak set up my reservation with an Enterprise NOT at the airport, so the Enterprise location at the airport did not have my reservation. Thankfully, there was car availability and Enterprise was able to almost match the original quote.... so always check to ensure the rental location even if you put the airport as a location.

DisasterNegativ: I booked a car for 12:00pm pick up. But guess what time they close? 12:00. So when we arrived, the doors were locked. Unbelievable. Customer service was useless. I ended up calling Enterprise directly and finding another place. Got a car for LESS than what was available online. Will work with them directly for now on. This was ridiculous.

Never ENDING NIGHTMARENegativ: I put in SMF for the Rental, When got there, told it was 2700 Arden Way. Would not honor deal at this Location, Cab would cost $40.00, Best Price they could do was $30.00 More then planned. Still Cheaper then Cab. On Drop Off, Was suppose to be ACV Arcata Airport, but when I got to Airport with my Wife to Drop off, only Hertz and National were there. No Answer at where Car was Rented or nearest Enterprise Office. I got Customer Service at home and was told I could of dropped it off with National, as same company. The Next day when I was dropping it off, was told to park in pay lot and that Enterprise had a DROP BOX for Keys. Nightmare Never Ending!

Positiv: Pickup and return agents were friendly. Car was good, nice to have Siruis XM, LTE hot spot and Apple CarPlay.Negativ: Waited over 45 minutes in line for only 3 guests in front of me. The system seemed very unorganized. Agent had to run back and forth to car lot multiple times to get keys. First car he got for us was apparently already rented. No inspection was done upon check out, this is a huge RED FLAG. It was up to us to go over the car and markup the damage report in a dark parking lot with little light after waiting forever in line. Upon return the agent was very critical of every piece of damage. Luckily we had caught everything and had marked it on the inspection form.

I had preciously rented an all whell drive suv and they confirmed over phone it was, but when I get there they tell me ita 2wheel drive and will cost 165% of my original reservation tk get a all wheel drive vehicle, not even 4x4. Just terrible business practice.
Up Sold, under deliveredPositiv: That I made it safe in the snowstormNegativ: Since there was a big storm, I called ahead to confirm SUV had 4x4 or all wheel drive and was told most had all wheel drive and it wouldn't cost more than $20/day for 4wheel drive. That said, I did not cancel and book a 4x4 at similar price with another rental company. When I arrived the prices got much higher and told no SUV's have al wheel drive, so I was forced to buy a more expensive vehicle and it was a very dated old jeep. I paid 165% of the original booking for an SUV! Never again.

Negativ: The guy helping me was very dismissive to me. I requested a jeep got a nissan rogue. Debit card for locals is a NO but theres nothing that states it online.
Negativ: When I got to the counter at the Sacramento airport to pick up my car, I was told that they didn't have anything for me and that I had made the reservation at the downtown location - I'm positive, I did not. The woman at the counter told me to call and see if I could get the same car and rate transferred to the airport, but didn't give me any help (other than telling me to get away from the counter). When I called, I was told they could make a reservation, but it would cost me more than twice what I had originally paid or that I could just go get the car I had reserved at the downtown location. By the way, this was happening at 9pm. I called an Uber and they drove me downtown only to find that location had closed at noon (9 hours earlier). The Uber then drove me to the place where I was staying. In the mean time, I cancelled my reservation with you and got a car from Alamo instead. It cost me $100 more than my original reservation with you, but they had a car available and I was able to get it the next morning. In all I ended up spending about $75 on Ubers and never ended up getting a car from you.

Not open when my flight landed Positiv: I didn't have to do anything to prevent charges on my card for a rental I didn't get.Negativ: My flight was delayed and the counter wasn't open when I arrived at my destination. I never got to pick up the rental or use a Payless vehicle. I Instead had to pay much more for a car at a different company because they were the only counter open.
Twist endingPositiv: Initially, the price: $50 for three days.Negativ: Reserved an economy car and got a mid-size. Not thrilled with that. En route to return the car, got stuck in traffic and didn't have time to get gas. I'd driven a total of less than 80 miles and the gas gauge was down about a quarter in my unwanted mid-size car. An additional $30 was added to my charge. Seemed excessive. Also, the return process involves walking back to the rental counter and waiting in line for the final tally. Grossly inefficient in light of planes to be caught.
Payless rentalPositiv: Clean, reliable carNegativ: There’s no damn sign telling me where to return a Payless Car at Oakland airport. I did not realize Avis is the parent company. Also, the person who can give a receipt for Avis can’t do so for Payless. As I had to drop off before the Payless Office opened, I was unable to get a receipt or know how much I was being charged!
Negativ: When I got there, the counter was very busy. The agent was very friendly and said that he would have an auto soon similar to the one I booked. He said it was being washed and detailed. After sitting about 30 minutes and seeing other customers getting their cars and leaving I went back up to him and asked the status of my account. He "couldn't find" the auto I was supposed to have and tried to up-grade me for ten dollars a day more. When I declined, he was able to find an alternative vehicle on the spot for me. Other that the haggle of check in, everything else was very satisfactory.

Negativ: My flight was delayed three times and by the time I got to the Sacramento airport Payless closed. There was no communication or message letting me know that they were closing. All the other rental companies stayed open. Bummer for them!!!! My money went elsewhere.
Car was awfulNegativ: Car was awful and unkept. Tire light came on two minutes after leaving the car rental lot. I had to put air in all 4 tires. There was a horrible noise all the time from the back of the car, something like metal was dragging. One of the wheels had damage and the wheel cap kept coming slightly off, I had to kick it often to get it back in place. I will never rent from Payless again.

Get what you pay forPositiv: Car was clean but rented to me with a tire with low air. Negativ: Went through 1 toll which was expected and a 7.75 bill. What wasn't expected was the $15 administrative fee for each toll from thrifty. Shady. The tire continued to lose air slowly through the course of my rental and was finally noticeable upon return. During return, was treated like I destroyed their car and accused of intentionally driving around on a flat. Never rent from thrifty again.
Negativ: Had to wait over 30 minutes at the counter to pick up car
Check in line had about 20 in it with two attendants.Positiv: Value was right on. Car return was speedy.Negativ: Long Wait for check-in; the car exterior was marked up/scratched so had to go thru hassle of making a dent record;
Negativ: No cars available when I got there. Waited over an hour for a car.
Positiv: Staff was very professional and kept us apprised of the delay. They totally understood our displeasure but We won't let that be a deterrent next time we need to rent a car. I would highly recommend Thrifty to anyone.Negativ: Car was not ready when we arrived, Short staffed which I understand and apparently they were preparing the car for delivery to us.
Very happy with the service I received from ThriftyPositiv: The staff members I interacted with were very kind and professional. The gentleman's name at the counter was Samir and he was very professional. When I returned the car, the attendant (I wish I knew his name!) noticed that my elderly mother was in the car and needed to use a walker. Rather than have us drop off the car, walk over to the shuttle and then take the shuttle to the airport, he offered to have one of the other attendants drive us in the rental car directly to the airport. That was a HUGE help and his astuteness and kindness was greatly appreciated. Negativ: No complaints whatsoever.
Positiv: The staff were courteous, and the vehicle was fine.Negativ: The company software system had gone down when I arrived, so a large queue built up. Staff didn't seem too familiar with manual procedures.
Positiv: Liked getting a clean Subaru and the personnel were amazingly friendly. Negativ: Waited on the airport curb for over 40mins to ride over to car rental office. They only had one bus running every 15 minutes which doesn't work for a rush of inbound flights. Not sure if this is Thrifty's issue or actually the airport?
