Iberostar Quetzal

The food at the buffet was great, and I also really liked the food at the Tex-Mex restaurant. The bar waitress was really on top her game and came often to check if we wanted drinks. I liked the nature life there (howler monkeys, flamingos, toucans etc.). The beach was beautiful and well taking care of. I liked the concept of the pool bar, but it didn't have enough sunlight.

I didn't like the fact that there is no disco on the premises, although there is easy access to Playa del Carmen downtown. And I didn't appreciate that when I got my room cleaned the maid never cleaned the floor. I also would've liked it if they had an adult only pool. I didn't appreciate that the staff lets people reserve the beds around the pool for hours without even showing up, when it clearly states on signs that you can't do that! The Sunday night show was very strange and I think they should think about replacing the theme of that night! Lastly, I think there should be a 24h bar on the premises as well, everything was shut off by 2.

The resort is situated in a very dense jungle with Howler Monkey's, Peacocks an a very large and cute rodent type animal that I cannot remember the name of. Don't think of a rat or mouse but a large non-aggressive fun to watch animal. I truly enjoyed walking from the room to the beach every day, as the surroundings are beautiful and the sounds of the birds, monkeys were surreal.

The Buffet was very substandard. Many things didn't make sense, such as, there would be a tub of Nacho Cheese next to a bowl of fruit salad but no chips anywhere. Instead of having a section that would normally have ceviche and fresh seafood, they would go the very cheap route of having bowls of different kinds of Jams for toast even though it was lunch and dinner time. The food at the buffet was okay, but after several days became mundane as it was always the same. They will not allow you to make a plate to take to your room....wow, just wanted to have a pleasant dinner in my room with my wife, I ended up one night after finally becoming so frustrated with this policy, ignoring the greater at the entrance and walking out with a plate of food while she tried to make me return the plate..I know that is rude of me however if I payed for a all-inclusive resort, not in any way cheap or economy, I should be able to bring a few donuts and cookies back to the room. Room service is available however, very limited menu, the taco's were good. This is very much a children oriented hotel, maybe I should have read more into the details of the resort, I don't want to spend the time doing that now. Examples.....I'm a drinker, especially when on vacation, my previous experiences at other resorts would have a mini bar in the room, when I say a mini bar, it should have at least a few choices of cheap liquor available, this resort had a refrigerator with 6 beers, 4 cokes and 6 bottles of water. I asked all over the resort if there would be somewhere to get a bottle of Vodka to no avail. Almost had the great bartender at the sports bar let me purchase a bottle under the table, but he made it clear that he could get into trouble if someone found out about it. I didn't want to put him/us in that position. I found that you could leave the resort and walk several blocks down the road for a liquor store. The bars are scarce at this resort as well.
