As a result: Chinese "One China policy: collided with a sticker in my passport, so that I was declined necessary entry into China for transit purposes. 1) The staff in Frankfurt should have checked my documents first and should have pointed out that problem. 2) It should have been clearly highlighted on the tickets and during booking, that there is a stopover with necessary immigration into China."

Negativ: "This is a big airport for transit passengers. Even if you had a boarding pass for your connecting flight, you needed to get in line to get another one. That took an hour and a half. If you needed a transit visa because of a long layover (China Southern offers accommodation) you needed to go through a second procedure which was arbitrary and chaotic and took hours. I got my transit visa in 2 1/ 2 hours (4 hours after getting off plane). In another hour I was at the very nice hotel provided. China Southern staff had assured me I didn't need to get to the airport particularly early, but the hotel staff required I leave 3 1/2 hours before my flight. With a 15 hour layover I was able to get 3 hours sleep. I saw people who had been in the transit visa area for up to 7 hours. Nothing else about these flights mattered at that point."

To make matters ever worse I was sandwiched between 1 overweight man that was spilling into my seat and another man how packed proper hygiene. The meal was very basic and was with too authentic flavor and material. Rice was undercooked and compressed in rectangular shape probably by food producing machine. No individual grains can be seen. There were no individual monitors or entertainment available, but understandable, considering that it is a two and a half hour flight."

It took me an hour to discover that in Korea before I switched. How about a warning up front? Just nothing but error codes. Finally, the check in process in Frankfurt was outlandish for MU 220. We arrived too early; only to find Delta in place of CE I get that. He suggested coming back at 10:30. We did. Still no CE clerks. At about 10:45 someone showed up. So when another gentleman got in line so did we. This individual who started rearranging the stanchions notice us standing in line and offered no information. Then a tour group showed up and filled in the rest of the line but in the line next to us. Finally, at about 11:35 the clerks were ready to start check in. Just prior to that they had changed the electronic signs to show that we were now in the Priority check in line. No problem, so I thought, because the first individual had seen us waiting since she got there. However, when the poor gentleman, who was in front of us, tried to check in in the economy line he was refused and so were my wife and I. The only explanation the person gave was that she "was only there to care for the economy check in line". No compassion, no caring no thinking outside the box! The tour guide noticed the situation and motioned us ahead of her group. My wife and I passed to a counter who did her job; but another CE counter rep refused to simply do his job and check in the poor man in. He was ushered to the back of the line beyond the stanchions. This left a bad taste in my mouth. I recently watched a documentary about how they were handled the great amount of passengers at the "World's busiest Airport". They failed to mention not really caring about the one lone individual who had showed up early. My wife and I have discussed this problem and will seriously consider not using China Eastern any time soon!"

One was so delayed we barely made our connection, and our luggage didn't make the connection at all. So, we spent nearly 2 days on vacation without our belongings. The return flight was so delayed that we did miss our connection, and had to spend the night in Shanghai. China Eastern's staff in Shanghai handled it VERY poorly. They were rude, refused to give us instruction, and we spent hours in the airport trying to figure out which bus to take and where we were actually going. Their exact words to one distraught couple seeking help were "That's not our problem." Service in general was average to poor. Food was average. There are no adult drinks available even for purchase, and they would have been nice to enjoy given the other stresses they caused on our vacation. Our seats were often damaged in one way or another. I was attracted to this airline for the reasonable rates, but do yourself a favor and pay a little extra for a more tolerable experience."

Calling the agency Lastminute.com that had sold the ticket was not helpful either - they stated that they had no control over the ticket in the last 24h prior to departure and were unable to provide any assistance and no information how to activate the insurance purchased prior. Very dissatisfying experience. I take over 50 flights a year - worst assistance experience ever."

Positiv: "Price and journey time"
Negativ: "1. Halt at Beijing (4.5hrs) was a bit too long 2. Boarding needs to be based on seat#/section#. Can't be single line for all passengers which creates chaos (people stand in 1 queue for almost an hour to board) 3. Meal option reserved/requested (hindu veg or indian veg) was not correctly honored."
Positiv: "Boarding was easy."
Negativ: "Food ! Tasteless and bald.."
Positiv: "Good collection of latest movies."
Negativ: "Cheap flight with no proper in flight services. No beverages served until after Meal was served after 2-3 hours. Was able to ask and get wine. Food was mediocre and breakfast was a cheap sandwich offered in hand. 2 meals in 12 hour flight, Rice with chicken and Noodles with chicken"
Positiv: "New York to Beijing plane was new."
Negativ: "Not have salt pepper tooth pick.Halfway of plane juice finish. In this long flight no have snacks"

Positiv: "Essengutschein über 8 Euro für 5 Std. Verspätung (wegen Taifun). Einige Filme sogar in Deutsch verfügbar."
Negativ: "Das Essen war nicht so gut. Der Sitzabstand zu klein, die Sitzbreite zu klein, das Sitzpolster durchgesessen."
Positiv: "Flug von A nach B in 2:15 Stunden. Nichts Besonderes zu berichten, leider auch keine Highlights. Doch, einige Filme im Bordangebot sogar auf Deutsch."
Negativ: "Das Essen war nicht so gut. Der Sitzabstand zu klein, die Sitze zu schmal, die Polsterung durchgesessen. Kleine Displays mit schlechtem Kontrast zu Filme schauen."
Positiv: "Das Flugpersonal war sehr aufmerksam und hat persönliche Wünsche soweit möglich erfüllt. Boarding war auch sehr angenehm und schnell. Flug und Landung ohne Probleme."
Negativ: "Das Essen war nicht so gut, keine persönliche Bordunterhaltung, kleine Sitzabstände und durchgesessene Sitze. Eine Tortur für Beine und Rücken."
Positiv: "Courteous crew, more organized than the Houston flight. Good food. The airport is very easy to follow and find places."
Negativ: "Long ride from airport to the hotel."
Negativ: "The flight was very hot the entire 12 hours, no individual air controls were present. We asked for a beer when the first drink service came around and were told only juice or water was available, while the next row of seats were served multiple beers without issue. After the service was over we rang the attendant button, it was immediately shut off and no one came to assist us. Rows ahead and behind us ran an attendant and were served. We asked again for a beer and were told they didn’t have it (these were all by the same attendant that was serving our area, who was liberally serving others in our area) We eventually got up to and went to the service station, where 5-7 other passengers were standing, helping themselves to beers in the carts and pouring themselves wine while flight attendants stood there chatting with them and continuing to ignore us. Eventually we were able to get ones attention and were able to secure two beers, after being told Mulltuple times that they didn’t have them, while other passengers were being served multiple at a time, or helping themselves to the beverage carts in the service areas. Staff was unprofessional and the entire flight was a battle for service. I have flown many 12+ hour flights and never had any stress or issues whatsoever, this was a new and frankly terrible experience. I am wishing my flight home was not with this airline, as I am afraid of a repeat."

Positiv: "An der Abwicklung durch das Bordpersonal gibt es nichts, dass besonders hervorzuheben ist. Das gilt im positiven wie im negativen Sinne; alles Routine. Es fehlt insofern die besondere Note, die einen an die Gesellschaft binden würde."
Negativ: "Das Essen war leider ausgesprochen schlecht, und zwar beide Hauptmahlzeiten. Es schmeckte einfach nicht. Wenn ein Flug in Richtung Deutschland geht, erwarte ich Ansagen auch in der Sprache des Ziellandes. Das hat nichts mit Verständigung zu tun, sondern ist vielmehr eine verbindende Geste"
Positiv: "The style of the pillows and blankets were nice. The pillows were really comfortable and a good size. The taste of the food was okay. I honestly expected a horrible experience, it was not fantastic but it was better than what I anticipated."
Negativ: "The sealed blanket had white hair as if from an older person. Although I liked the pillow, on my return flight I used it to sleep, I used it for my back the entire time going, when I got home I noticed I was developing a sty on my eyelid. My companions noticed that the sometimes when he received his food it was still cold in some parts. On my return flight there were a few times my row was skipped for drinks. On my return flight the stewardess seemed hesitant when I asked for an additional drink. I ordered tea and asked for water. The gate agent in Beijing was extremely rude and unhelpful, she ignored us and even tossed our ticket back at us when we tried to ask about our seats for the flight."
Positiv: "Das Personal hat seinen Job ordentlich gemacht, nicht weniger, allerdings auch nicht mehr... Das Essen war auffallend gut, zwar einfach, aber guter Geschmack"
Negativ: "Der Flug war spät in DUS los und hat leider nichts aufgeholt; 1, 5 Std. verloren. Die Sitze waren sehr eng und die Maschine war sehr voll. Dementsprechend war es sehr laut...."
Positiv: "generally good"
Negativ: "failure to comply with special food needs after many calls and e-mails stating organised so a 10 year old boy had to do without food on board due to allergy to NUT &Fish and being a 18 hour journey not appreciated"
Positiv: "It was the cheapest ticket for the route"
Negativ: "Air China still doesn’t let you use your phone at all during a flight even on airplane mode which is problematic when all of your music, podcasts, and audiobooks are on your phone."
Positiv: "The ticket was very affordable. The airplane accomadations were in line with what I paid so no complaints. Happy thatI saved money and got a window seat."
Negativ: "The movie and show selections in English were not that great. Some outdated movies. The space between seats was tight. The bathrooms were filthy. Looked like that they hadn’t been cleaned prior to this leg."
Positiv: "The crew, the boarding, the plane and the food were all fine."
Negativ: "The plane just did not take off for 2 hours. I missed my connection flight and have to wait at the airport for additional 24 hours. Very exhausting and unpleasant experience."
Positiv: "AVML was very good thanks to German catering."
Negativ: "Outdated electronic device policy. Can't even operate in flight mode. While other airlines offer wifi service (LH, UA ETC)."
Positiv: "Agent was VERY helpful and helped me to change my seat so that I could have an aisle. She also made sure I had the aisle seat on my connecting flight"
Negativ: "Breakfast was not good unfortunately"
Negativ: "There were no entertainments and was not allowed to use any devices."
Negativ: "All our checked bags, all of them, never made it. We are still waiting. Very cramped on totally full flight."
Positiv: "it was an inexpensive flight"
Negativ: "No one would speak to us as to when we were boarding to let us know. The plane was older. Entertainment was limited. My wife's television was stuck on the map the entire 15 hour flight. Never been on an international flight that didn't have wifi but oh well, whatever. I had put in request several times for my wife's dietary restrictions as a vegetarian of which was never responded to and the only option was meat in all courses during the flight."
Negativ: "looks like I have flea bites all over my back and legs. TV did not work, there was something underneath the seat that was part of the plane could not put my feet underneath the seat very well, cannot communicate well with crew although they tried could not understand any announcements in English"
Positiv: "Crew was great, aircraft was comfortable."
Negativ: "Each flight was late to take off. Food wasn't good and entertainment could have been better."
Negativ: "I flew Alaska Airlines to San Jose and San Jose to Shanghai on air China. I was told by Alaska my baggage would be carried all the way through to Pudong airport. My baggage claim ticked showed that. When I got to PVG Pudong airport in Shanghai my baggage was not there they were not very helpful and difficult to understand. They told me they thought my baggage would come ther on another flight and gave me a form. By the next evening I had not heard from them. I emailed them again and I'm currently in Japan waiting to see if they will send me my luggage. Do not expect the kind of customer service in China as you would in the US or Japan.Shanghai airport is, at best, difficult to navigate...stay away from all the taxi solicitors."
Positiv: "Empty plane less than 100 passengers"
Negativ: "See above. Also stewardesses gave free rein to travel agent passengers, everyone else was instructed "sit down" while these travel agents roamed the aisles before boarding and were not told one thing. It seemed the stewardesses were afraid of them and this was a strange unfair favoritism."
Positiv: "This leg of the trip was ok but, overall, my experience on Air China was deplorable. They overbooked a flight, booked us on a later flight, and charged us $500 for the new booking. Their argument was that they did not realize we already had our boarding passes when they rebooked us. What?! The entertainment is very dated and so it the aircraft. The only redeeming aspect of this flight was the food. It was really good. Oh... and there are no outlets on the plane, which is not typically on flights to Asia. They also lost half of the passengers luggage."
Negativ: "They have no refund policy. I needed to change my flight date, but did not have a firm date in mind. Air China does not allow this. This is very unusual in my experience. And I fly a lot. Cheap bastards."
Negativ: "China air closed the door on their own connecting flight left allot of us stranded. My next flight was on Philippine airlines"
Negativ: "The food and drinks are limited from all flights. Due to the limitation on the carry-on luggage, I had to place my camera batteries and other stuffs to the check-in luggage at the check in counter in Washington DC. The Chinese custom in Beijing took them all. They are normally just take the battery charger, but not the camera batteries. These are expensive items and not conviniece at all to customer."
Positiv: "Quick boarding"
Negativ: "But slow to take off"
Positiv: "The flight was crazy cheap. The boarding was fast a simple enough, and the food was pretty good for airplane food. Overall I would probably pay this price to fly this airline again, but if I had to pay even 30 or 40 dollars more I would not."
Negativ: "The Crew was crazy bad. They had plenty good enough English they just didn't give a rip if we needed something. My son spilled his yogurt on his lap so I asked for paper to get it cleaned up. The lady just huffed and walked away, I thought to get napkins, but nope, she never came back. This was one of several things that were just lazy or rude on the flight. Also, While I get that this is Air China, so most of the entertainment would be Chinese, the last time I flew Korean Air, and China Southern on international flights they had a pretty good international entertainment selection. Not so on Air China! there were about 4 English choices, and nothing else. Again, I would fly this again at this price (600 for round trip from CGO to DEN) but for even 30-40 dollars more, I would find something else."
Negativ: "Delayed for 2.5 hours."
Positiv: "The best part about Air China was the low price. Everything went smoothly. We were late departing so I missed my connecting flight to Japan. I had a 16 hour lay over. I recommend paying more attention to the total hours. I mistook 9pm for 9 am ! The airport in Beijing was a fine place to read.."
Negativ: "The flight was totally booked - the plane was full. 90% of the movies offered were Chinese in origin."
Negativ: "Der Flug hatte 2h Verspätung."
Negativ: "After boarding, passengers sitting on the plane for ~2 hours before the plane starts to depart"
Positiv: "Friendly staff and on time."
Negativ: "The one thing that would stop me flying with this company is that most of the food served had meat in it. I understand it might be their culture, but as a company who serves people from all around the world, they should really consider changing their menu. Not everyone supports the killing of animals, and not everyone has a diet that do as well."
Positiv: "Sitze in der Langstrecke gut / Verpflegung vernünftig, aber nicht premium"
Negativ: "Bordunterhaltung - Geringe Auswahl! Nahezu nur Chinesisch / Englisch - Flugkarte (Map) ging auch nicht!"
