We were given a golden Astra saloon car, which is not what I wanted and not what I paid for. The service assistant told me that as we had already paid, there was nothing he can do - which is unreasonable. He then said we could bring the car back half full, as compensation - when we dropped the car off there was no record of this and we were told we would be charged for the lack of fuel. I am unsatisfied with the whole experience of your company.

Avis rep then hijacked rental and I ended up paying TWICE the quoted rate online from Kayak. Avis//Budget rep also claimed there was no drop off station in the Flinders area (specifically Frankston, but there is).

YOU GUYSNegativ: So the unholy alliance between you and other vendors results in confusion over who owns the reservation. Price-line, you, Dollar Rental? Who knew? The address was wrong. No help calling anyone. A mess. I get there are bread crumbs for each referral, and its easy to wipe your hands and pass the buck, but it makes it hard for poor consumers like me. I vote with my feet. Will not use your site, nor will I allow it to be used by my employees for travel planning. I think I'll block access at our firewall.

There is always a problem picking up from Red Spot counter in Sydney ANegativ: Wait at counter, confirmed car seemed different than booked car. When I asked to change I kept on getting contradictory information from counter agent, and quoted prices continued to change by the second, and it seemed to me I was being up-charged. Uncomfortable, difficult, unprofessional presentation. This is the second time, maybe third, this has occured at the Red Spot counter in Sydney.

Bei höheren Schäden bis 5500 Dollar muss man dann trotzdem selber zahlen. Ich klär das nun mit meiner Versicherung.
Absolut nicht in OrdnungPositiv: Ich habe schlussendlich ein Auto gehabt. Negativ: Das gebuchte Auto war nicht vorhanden. Musste ein Upgrade von USD 70.- zahlen um ein Auto zu erhalten. Welches die genau gleiche klasse hatte wie das was ich gebucht habe. Als ich mich beschwerte waren drei andere mit selben Problem.

Not getting what I booked forNegativ: After my extra effort to email and chat with your customer service and was assured that I would get the car I booked, I still received something not suitable and different to what I booked. My subsequent complaint fell on deaf ears as well.
At drop off they tried to charge me for previous damageNegativ: At the Sydney drop off they tried to charge me for previous damage. They wouldn't resolve it, so I cancelled the second rental in Cairns with them. I took video when I picked up and dropped off the car , and I told them I had the video. So far they haven't tried billing me for the damage.
I recommend you us a more reputable company.

Dropoff was quick and easy once we had descended into the depths of the underground car park (Pullman Hotel in central Sydney)
Car was clean and mobile - although small even after our upgrade
Negativ: Very slow pickup - took over half an hour to complete paperwork although there was no queue. For us, it was a big comparison with Launceston (Tasmania) Europcar where we had rented the week before and where pickup was almost instantaneous (to be fair, Launceston is a much smaller airport).
Price increased more than expected over original booking - 30% (of total car price) extra charge was applied for picking up at Sydney airport.
Car hire Sydney Australia Positiv: The Mitsubishi AX was good for accommodating 5 passengers in comfort. Though it struggles with fair luggage for 5. Negativ: No satnav/gps. And it was a little underpowered.

renting on Australia's east coastPositiv: The pickup/dropoff went well, especially the help when we returned the car. Car was very comfortable, clean, drove well, and we had no problems.Negativ: When we picked up the car, I asked for a map - especially of how to get to the motorway in Sydney. Was told they didn't have any maps. We used our cell gps, but when you go through tunnels service gets dropped (duh) making it a bit stressful about what turn might be next. I was surprised (frustrated) that even a city map was not available in paper form (come on, Hertz!).
Next problem was discovered when we got home and I was paying my credit card bills. When my reservation was made, Hertz charged my credit card one day rental costs. But the system never reflected this when renting or returning the car, so I was charged the full amount when dropped off. This is NOT the fault of the return agent, but the Hertz system. I have since sent an email to Hertz and 2 days later still no reply. If this gets resolved, then my rating might go up - but if it takes more work on my part to get resolved, then rating may actually go down.
Also, I thought the charge to drop off at a different city was a bit steep - especially since it seemed like more than twice the actual rental cost.

Positiv: Very helpful staff at pickup carpark (less so at the desk) when dealing with the issued discussed opposite. Negativ: It turns out that the new X-trail model is smaller inside than the previous models. The car was advertised as large enough for 5 adults. It really isn't (just about large enough for 2 adults and 3 children) and bizzarely, the car provided ad an extra 2 folding seats in the back which further reduced the luggage space.
Also on arrival I was shown to a Renault which was even smaller but the Hertz staff at the pick-up point accepted that this was not equivalent to the X-trail and changed it.

Delayed pick up and charged twicePositiv: The lady working at the counter was very friendly.Negativ: i upgraded my car but the new car allocated to me wasn't there. Took a long time for them to bring it around, but didn't update my record with the new pick up time. Dropped it the next day taking the delay into account. They charged me an extra day ($160. talked to manager without any luck. Send their customer support an email but the response said they get back to me in 2 weeks.
SUV was a little bigger than expected but ended upPositiv: Service was excellent. Negativ: Auto Key was very tricky and did't always start on first try.
We Had an apparent issue of not understanding the damage report was noted at rental so we took it back and they clarified what was on the report. The issue however is we did not have a direct call number and the national number was not answered. This needs to be addressed for future rentals.
Good car, unexpectedly high price...Positiv: I liked the car.Negativ: I did not like the price and eventually ended up returning it early (which I had to pay a $30 early-return fee for). I reserved it online for $169.00 but by the time I got to the counter at the airport, I was paying over $600 for the rental for 6 days. I could have rented a GPS (which I needed bc in a foreign country) for $20 a day (pricing is way too high for this) or upgraded for another $10-$11 per day on the car (basically forcing the upgrade). The insurance was around $47 per day which would have put me up to around $870ish for the rental so I opted out of that, which led to being worried the whole time about other drivers who might damage the car in some way, leading me to have to pay for any damage that might have happened (was warned I might have to pay $6000 if damage occurred - higher because of upgrade). This was a vacation and I definitely was not expecting to pay so much for the rental car (money could have gone towards vacation activities). Hertz strikes me as a company that strives to always have the lowest prices on kayak and the other travel sites so they can get max customers in the door and then charge them for everything under the sun after that. I will definitely be comparing prices a little more closely from now on.
