CO drivers license, denied SUV rentalNegativ: I flew in to DIA for a weekend ski vaction with the family from CA. I have a CO ID and they would not rent me a car because I had a higher chance of doing something bad to the car?!? Long story short, We went and rented from another company. Rent somewhere else.
Positiv: Car was priced fairly Negativ: It took nearly an hour in the snow to get a shuttle to bring us to the rental lot. It then took another hour to receive my rental car. The extra money is well worth the extra two hours I spent with this company.
Positiv: Size of car. Negativ: Additional up charging. I reserved a $324 dodge caravan for 6 passengers plus bags only to learn when I arrived the car was to small and with 6 passengers there was limited room for baggage. i was "upgraded" to a Yukon XL for an additional $ 200. I'm ok with paying more but 60% is a lot. fyi - the counter gentleman was very nice & helpful.
Car awful customer service worsePositiv: NothingNegativ: The employee employee working with us to get our reserved rental practically left us with no choice to drive in the mountains without the upgraded vehicle so we agreed. We needed to leave asap to beat the snow and make it for our check in time an hour and a half away. Our upgraded car was dirty, the windshield was disgusting on the inside, usb port broken, wipers barely functional, had shifting problems and lastly, had a hole the size of a softball in the middle of the back seat! As we were being pushed out as just some other nuisance customer, I decided I would wait and report these things to them upon return of the car, once again I was in a hurry and the place was swarming with other people. Upon return of my car they wouldn't even hear me out, show any compassion and there was "nothing they could do about it." I was told I could have taken it to a car wash, replaced the wipers myself and bought a charger instead of use the usb and they would have reimbursed me.. I am on vacation and should have to do absolutely none of that with my POS rental car... I felt so disrespected and tried to stay level headed but having likely overpaid ($330 for 4 days) I was not happy they wouldn't even work with me. I would highly recommend no one does business with Advantage Rentals.

Bait and Switch!Negativ: After making me wait 45 minutes to meet an agent, she told me that I was now late and that I would have to pay an additional $100 for a car. My only alternative was to take the shuttle back to the airport and then see if I could find a better price with a competitor. That would have taken hours, so I was stuck paying the scam price. The agent even argued with me the entire time that it was my fault that they were scamming me. When I finally got the car at the new price, it was covered in snow with no way to clean it off. I was stuck in the cold trying to wipe the ice and snow from the windshield with my hands. Terrible experience.
Not Worth ItPositiv: Nothing reallyNegativ: I got to a facility that was understaffed which meant getting my vehicle took too long. For the amount paid I received a very low end car that was in bad need of cleaning and a little bit of upkeep.
Negativ: I didnt like how I purchased two cars for $68 each and felt forced to walk out paying $490 each .. i felt very confused and pressured into renting these vehicles
Denver advantagePositiv: Free, fast, convenient shuttle to office. Friendly staffNegativ: Employee talked me into features I didn't need which doubled my rental, supposed to have car until 8pm, but somehow reservation changed to 12pm, was late and they charged me ridiculous rates on the overage, car was filthy, hadn't been cleaned whatsoever.
Long Waiting TimePositiv: The price we got was very goodNegativ: We had to wait about 30 minutes for the shuttle in Denver. When the shuttle did come, it was packed as a large number of people were waiting. When we got to the rental center, we were the first ones in line but had to wait a good thirty minutes for a Toyota Corolla. They did not have one available and we had to wait for one to be washed. We were willing to take a larger car on the lot but they didn't want to upgrade us, but would prefer to make us wait. Basically we wasted a good hour on shuttle and waiting for the car.
Negativ: Car exterior and windshield were pretty dirty. The windshield had some greasy smudges on it and we didn't have any cleaner with us so we had to live with it for the several days we were on the trip.
Did not honor the reservationNegativ: They did not Honor the reservation price. They offered a car three times the cost of the one I reserved. They argued that because of the weather conditions they could not rent me the full size car and that I needed a four wheel drive. It was snowing but at the end I got the car I wanted from Avis.

Drop off was smooth and easy!Negativ: Computers were down all day when car picked up, so all the info I did online prior to traveling was wasted. Had to do all again on paper. Then the car I got had a tag on the dash board instead of mounted on the front bumper. Also found out that the driver's door only locks (when outside the car) with a key, manually. Took quiet a few minutes at midnight in 11 degree temp to figure that one out.
Positiv: Staff was friendly, no wait/fast service
Positiv: Quick, simple & easy! Alamo shuttled us from the airport to the pick up, gave us our choice of vehicles & we were done. Just as simple for drop off, pull in the parking lot, the attendant will check in the vehicle before you get out an you can head straight to the shuttle & back to the airport. We forgot to fill up the tank before we returned and expected highway robbery on gas rates from them but all of their pricing was very reasonable. Everyone from the shuttle drivers to the sales people and parking attendants were very nice and helpful. We will definitely rent with Alamo again.

Alamo came thru!Positiv: We got caught by Winter Storm Jaxon. And we were really worried thaty we would have no transportation for the 2 day delay on leaving Denver. Alamo quickly rebooked our car rental and extended our stay for a low cost. Even though we were unhappy to be stuck because of the storm, at least Alamo helped make the best of it.

Great ExperiencePositiv: We have been renting (2) vehicles at the Denver Airport for the past 4 years. This was by FAR the best experience we have had. Easy to find shuttle, which was timely, short and quick check in, had the vehicles we wanted. In and out 15 minutes. I asked about a stain in the seat prior to leaving - they said don't worry about it - normal wear. Check out was FASTER that that! Would definitely go back.Negativ: It was freezing so they couldn't wash the vehicle I had. They said it would ice the vehicle. (Very understandable) The outside was very dirty. The other vehicle was already clean.
Robbed at check out. Positiv: The car was nice. Negativ: When I reserved the car- according to the description it should have been big enough. It wasn’t and the price jumped from $1200 to $2000 for the next size up.
Positiv: Checking in was quick and easy. When we returned our vehicle, the gentlemen who checked us out, gave us a discount due to the poor experience we had when a lesser grade vehicle was given to us, which of course we did not accept after battling with the Alamo representative.Negativ: After checking in, we went outside to receive our vehicle (which was suppose to be like or equal to a Lincoln Navigator). The representative tried to put us in a Volvo SUV which was much smaller. I requested a vehicle that would accommodate 6 people and luggage and paid top dollar for that. He told us they were out of those!! After pointing out at least 3 in the parking lot, he proceeded to tell me they were taken. When another rep came up to him and said the Volvo he was trying to give us was for another customer, our rep said "OH"!! After argueing with him for a few minutes, he finally gave us the vehicle we were originally promised!!

Avis Gave Me a LemonPositiv: Car was clean.Negativ: The car I was given failed to start the morning I needed to take it to an event. I had to call a car service. When I came back to the hotel and called roadside assistance, they wouldn't send me a new car and all the local places where they said I could return it for a new car were closed until the next day. Roadside assistance on the phone hung up on me before the call was over, but they did send someone. They were supposed to come within an hour, but then the notification I had said 1.5 hours. They jump started the car and it worked. I ran it for 45 minutes (the guy said 20 would be fine). The next morning when I went to return it for another car, it was dead again. The battery had clearly been jumped repeatedly, judging by the scratches on it. Great way to spend a vacation!

The drop-off process at the airport was also very easy and the staff was polite.Negativ: The owner of the Budget Car Rental on 200 W. 48th Avenue in Denver was rude. When I made my reservation through Kayak, I requested a small vehicle and paid for the suggested rental insurance. The owner of the agency, however, was very insistent I drive a SUV instead - When I asked how much it would be, he stated it would be $25.00 per day, but then when I declined it, he attempted to haggle with me. He also became visibly agitated when I declined the rental insurance he offered me for an exorbitant amount of money because I had already purchased it via Kayak. Ultimately, I felt as though the owner was demeaning and attempting to swindle me because I am a young woman who doesn't appear to know much about cars and, therefore, a pushover.

Tried calling Budget customer service several times during our wait which was equally as frustrating. I was traveling with my wife and 2yr old and Budget essentially abandoned us in the chilly Denver night.

Car was clean inside.Negativ: The fact that 1/8 of mile from their drive in to return car is gas station and they made a big deal about getting gas within 10 miles of returning and how much cost if you did not fill up. Not impressed. Fees for everything, like wanted to change drivers it became a big hassle and she would need to put on her credit card but I could add her for $13.00- a day. Not impressed with car selection. Don't know if I will do dollar again.

For me , I guess that was a good thing.

Vending machines for drinks didn't work. They would take your money but not give you a drink. When I reported it, desk personnel said they didn't own the machine and couldn't refund our money. I went back into facility and ask them to at least put a sign on machines indicating they were out of order. i fly into DEN several times a year and won't use Dollar again.

Poor servicePositiv: Picking the car up was a nightmare. Negativ: No one to let us out of the gate. No instructions to find our vehicle. Outrages pricing to use toll roads (highest in CO by a lot). Poor responses by the staff to simple questions about the rental. Will never rent from dollar again.
No Sympathy for Little ProblemsNegativ: I had to stop three times during the week to put air in the front right tire. One of the times was without filling the tank so I had to pay 75 cents. When I told them about this and that they owed me 75 cents they just laughed at me. So sad because everything else about the experience was very good. I'm 100% confident that they have done nothing about the leaky tire, so the next customer(s) will suffer this inconvenience too...

Was not 4-wheel drivePositiv: It was pretty comfortable and an okay drive not in the snow. Negativ: They told us that the car was 4-wheel drive and it clearly was not. We told them we were going to the ski resorts and it snowed multiple times and we ended up getting stuck in four different places. We were offered a Jeep Wrangler or the Chevy equinox and the representative told us that the Chevy was four wheel drive so we selected that over the Jeep thinking that the Chevy would be cozier. We ended up stuck in the snow multiple times with a two wheel drive vehicle.

I took an Uber to the right Enterprise because the airport taxes would have doubled the cost of my reservation. I’m glad I made the reservation but would have liked it to have been clearer on Kayak.com. You can take the light rail from the airport and the Enterprise on Broadway has a shuttle. Very convenient.

Slow Pickup from Airport, long queues at checkin :-/Positiv: The car was new and in clean condition. Drop off was no problem. Interactions with staff were friendly and helpful.Negativ: We were waiting at the pickup stop in cold snowy conditions for 1 hour. When we finally got a ride we were in a queue for the car for another hour and when we got to a representative they told us our booked car was not there. So more waiting and we ended up with a different type car than what we requested.
Worst company I have ever dealt with.Negativ: Waited 45 minutes in the cold for the shuttle bus while every other rental car company had 3-4 of their own shuttles arrive. Waited in line at rental car office where they only would help one person at a time even though there were 3-4 employees just sitting around doing nothing. Reserved two SUVs weeks in advance and paid up front and then they did not have either car when we arrived and told us that we were just out of luck. Called to get money back and got no apology or my money back.

Negativ: I got the vehicle late at night so when I walked around I didn't see anything period the next day in the daylight I was helping my daughter into the vehicle and saw that part of the paneling on the door was coming off. When I returned it I notified them and was good.
Scamer Negativ: First the guy tried telling me that I would get a ticket for not having a 4x4 in the Vail area. And I needed to up to 1 for $150 more. Then when I get to the car it is pitch black all the way to the exit. Then pulling out. There is another guy gives me the paper work to sign off that it is in good shape. I said I can't see the car to sign this. He tells me it's a new car it's fine. I then walk around the car with my cell flash light. Scratched dents all over the place. I mark up the sheet accordingly. And I leave.
I get it back and the people next to me were getting hassled for some stuff they didn't see and mark.
This place is poor. They are probably committing large scale insurance fraud. Amung other things.
Unorganized Positiv: Cars were new and in great shapeNegativ: Very unorganized setup from pickup to rental. We waited with 50 other people for 45 minutes at the terminal. Two buses finally show up and both are full. We called corporate who told us that one of the buses was done for the night. After hearing this, we took a cab to the rental location. 30 minutes later, the bus did return but they only sent the small bus so half the remaining people were still at the terminal. Once we had the car, there wasn't anyone at the gate to check us out. Upon returning the car, the same issue with busing happened. Thankfully we built time in for this but definitely annoying to have only one small bus running and making people wait so long.
Rental reviewPositiv: The agent who assisted me in securing my rental suggested I take a 4wd Tahoe in the Rockies. I was a single mother traveling with my daughters. I was so happy he recommended the bigger SUV because on our way back we hit a blizzard. Our rental drove through the snow covered roads with ease. Price was a good deal. Negativ: Check in for returning the vehicle was confusing. Never received my email about the $200 deposit you leave at checkout. Also, they need more agents at the desk. Line moves very slow.
Negativ: We waited at the airport for 50 minutes for the shuttle. Once we arrived at the car rental place we stood in line for over an hour to get our car. This was on a Wednesday night between 9 PM and 11:30 PM so it’s not like it should have been a primetime. It was absolutely miserable I will never use this company again
Filthy car and unprofessional pick upPositiv: Drop off was easyNegativ: The car was so filthy, I couldn’t see out the windows and had pull over immediately to clean them. There was dirt on my hands every time I open the car door. The rental rep wouldn’t inform me of anything I was getting charged for. And wouldn’t answer questions I had about the pricing. It was an unprofessional interaction over all.
The gave me the wrong type of carNegativ: I booked an economy 2 wheel drive for a skiing week in the Colorado mountains online. I've arrived to pick it up from the Colorado Airport location, past midnight and after a flight. After asking me where I was going, the recipient told me that I have to get a 4 wheel drive, according to the law, and because of the snowy conditions. I've added another $175 for the upgrade, got a Toyota Rav4, and went on my way. A day before returning the car, I got stuck on a uphill slope on a highway in the Colorado mountains during a snow storm, with the wheels spinning in place on the snowy road, unable to move the car. After being stuck for a while in the snow storm (in the remote mountains!), a highway patrol happened to come by, rescued me and helped me get over the uphill section. From there I drove very slowly until I got to a ski area's parking lot where I was able to stop safely. I turns out, that the Rav4 that they gave me was actually a 2 wheel drive version! After seeking help in vein (nowhere to buy snow chains or anything), with an almost empty phone battery, worrying that I won't be able to get back to my hostel, or out of the mountains, I've managed to call EZ, and they've sent me an actual 4 wheel drive as a replacement car, that got there after 3.5 hours. I've lost hundreds of hard earned dollars for a day of skiing, having paid for accommodation, rental gear and a ski pass, and of course the additional $175 for the car upgrade!
When finally returning the car I've complained at their reception, and being asked to see the manager, the receptionist told me he wasn't available (shocker), and that they'll credit me with compensation for the false upgrade (hasn't happened yet). I wonder if they ever will, and if it will include the money that I've lost for the activities that I paid for and didn't get to do because of their mess up, not to mention being stranded in the mountains during a snow storm, having my life at risk.
Hybrid leaves no storage space for long luggage. Positiv: The price, ease of drop off. Negativ: Initially they gave us a hybrid fusion for our “full size” reservation and our luggage could not fit in the car because of the huge battery in the trunk. Instead of remedying the situation they argued with me trying to convince me that all new cars are like this, and instead offered me a Santa Fe for $220 extra. They thought it was my fault for not booking a bigger car. Finally they gave us a regular full size and all our bags fit fine. Also the shuttle takes forever so leave extra time.

He was extremely pleaseant.Negativ: The guy who checked me in asked if I had a return flight which I did not do I booked one right there in front of him. Then he told me I made a fake booking even my acct had been withdrawn. Is it his job to investigate me? Just check me in... also car was dirty and rear tires were very low tread and I had to put air in tires immediately cause car kept notifying me to do so. No one walks out to check the car out with you. Also the clerk kept trying to add so much cost into my rental. Like till road fees which I never got on once though he said I couldn't avoid them in Denver! I had to decline insurance 3 times verbally then once electronically since I have full coverage and didn't want to spend $23+ a day on it. YES I UNDERSTAND TGE CONSEQUENCES. Will not use again for rental. They get you in with cheap prices in exchange for below mediocre service and below par vehichles.

The car had an overwhelming and bad air freshener smell that caused me to drive with the windows down the whole time I had the car despite that fact that it's winter and cold. I thought that since the price quoted me for the car rental was so low that it made up for these inconveniences, but when I was sent the final bill it had so many upcharges that the price was about what I pay when I go through Budget or Alamo. I won't use this company again.
Heavy use of horrible smelling deodorizer.Positiv: Good PriceNegativ: I tried three different cars and all of them reeked of a noxious air spray that they seemed to heavily use in every car. I settled on a car that had the least amount of smell to it, but had a headache from it, by the time I made it to my destination in Breckenridge. Maybe its because everyone is smoking weed in these cars when they get to CO, but I'd rather they smelled of smoke over the horrible scent they try to cover it with at this rental shop.

We rented a car for 4 days and only used tolls on one day so it was 45.00 extra dollars.

-Shuttle service was good and pick up and drop off very easy.
Negativ: -We were not alerted up front about the $150 deposit fee.
-Despite having a reservation, we still had to wait almost 90 minutes in a line to get our vehicle. Even with three agents working at the counter and only 5 people ahead of us in line, it was insufficiently staffed.
-Most people can get around the toll option and don't actually need it. I wish that during my hour waiting in line I had know to research routes to see if we actually needed it.
-While friendly, the rental agents were prone to chattiness and inefficient with the pick up process. I travel frequently and this is the slowest (the slowest!) rental pick up I have ever experienced! Be warned if you are on a tight schedule! Doesn't matter if you have small children either. I would have much preferred brevity at 11pm.
-You had to sign off on the car's condition before seeing it. The agent said we could send him pictures in the morning of anything we identified.
-The Denver Fox lot is not well lit.

Hertz cancelled my reservation Negativ: The hertz employee called and told me he did not have a car for us that I wanted and had a confirmation on. I told him that was unprofessional to call me less than 24 hours of reservation. Told me good luck finding a full size SUV at the airport. I made one call and rented one from AVR. We found out that all the big rental car companies did this due to the amount of snow that fell the days before we arrived and they could name their price and did not want to honor in what they called a glitch on the internet.

It cost $70 to cab to this Hertz from the airport, then an additional $50 to drop it off right at the airport. Worth renting from airport. Only one car to choose from, very dirty and not filled gas tank.

I had no choice as I had a funeral to get to that day.
Suckered me in :(Positiv: The price but there was a reason...never again Negativ: I selected the car to be picked up from the airport, when I got to the airport the car was reserved an hour away, and I had to pay extra and this was a hustle and I got ripped off thanks to KAYAK's BS Policy. I SELECTED DENVER AIRPORT, not some location an hour away, they allowed me to rip myself off for not reading the fine print. WHY DID YOU CHANGE MY PICKUP SPOT?

Positiv: The car was greatNegativ: The rental store front I went through failed to tell me that it was going to be an additional 30 dollars a day for being under 25. I understand there is an underage fee but I was never given the specific amount and then had no choice but to pay it on our departure date.
HorribleNegativ: I called and made arrangements for a friend to pick up the vehicle. During the discussion with the representative I was told that the location where he could get the car closed at 5:30. Because I was coming into Denver late in the afternoon and the location is 25 miles from the airport I gave my reservation to my friend.
When he arrived to pick up the car they didn't have the 4 wheel drive car I had reserved and he was told there wouldn't be one available. Because we were there to ski and going to Vail and Beavercreek , we needed a 4 wheel drive car. We ended up renting from another company for $24 a day more.

weather worthyPositiv: I liked that the pick up line was short. The car worked well in the snowy weather and that we had an ice scraper! There was a return shuttle ready and waiting at our 4am return.Negativ: It was confusing as to which line of cars we were able to choose from as we were just sent out to the lot. It was cold and no one steered us in the right direction. I had to find someone to ask. Our initial flight was canceled and rebooked for the next day - our rate went up a lot!

Deceptive ChargingPositiv: Car was okNegativ: As an emerald club member when driving the car off the lot they took my credit card and license as a deposit, but never asked if I wanted the supplemental insurance. Upon check in to my horror I found out that without ever asking or telling me, they charged me for ALL of the possible supplemental insurances for the car. What should have been ~$150 rental for 4 days, turned into ~$500. I have always rented from National because of the ease of checked out, but after this experience I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Positiv: I had a 10pm arrival, was delayed enroute by 3 hours. No-one informed me that payless, alone among the 20 or so rental companies in Denver, closes at midnight. No-one offered to help change the reservation to a company that might be open. They just left me stranded at 2 am in 15 degree weather waiting for a shuttle bus that never came.

Small mixup in reservation quickly corrected. Shuttle driver from airport was also efficient & helpful. Return of car was fast & efficient. Usually use Hertz, but this Payless service exceeded our expectations.Negativ: Car could have been cleaner inside. Exterior mirror cowl was missing, but they noted it.
TerribleNegativ: Not worth the few dollars you save. The gentleman at the counter tried to upsell everything but lied about fees. Said the gas option wasn’t an option. The car had interior stains and exterior scratches all over.
Great ValuePositiv: To rent a decent car for 4 days over thanksgiving for NDer $100 is a great deal. Car even had power windows, sunroof, Bluetooth, and a back up camera! I was impressed with the value Negativ: Low tire pressure light was on when we got it, driver side mirror shook like a leaf on a tree over 50 MPH. It took a while for our shuttle to arrive at the airport.
Silvercar Very Friendly and Easy to Deal WithNegativ: Could not connect to the WiFi at the pickup point. So glad there was an attendant on duty. She says this happens somewhat frequently. It would have been a real disaster if we would have arrived late and no one was there.

Negativ: When we arrived in Denver to pick up our car we were told that they did not have the Audi A4 we had reserved. Instead, they offered us an Infiniti QX60 for no extra charge. When we turned in the car there was a $400 charge for an upgrade that they said we had agreed to. We were told that there would be no upgrade charge, but they lied to us.They said it was our word against the agents and we had initialed
an upgrade. Worst rental car experience of our life.

Never using Thrifty/Dollar rental again!Positiv: The vehicle was clean but had a cigarette burn mark on the seat and big scratch on the door and no one was there at check out to annotate the damage.Negativ: Had to go to a kiosk and videochat with a rep. Then had to wait for one of the reps. to verify driver license info. with the person on video chat. Would have been much faster to have customer reps. review everything in person than to wait for the kiosk.
Nice car, decent value, awful servicePositiv: The car was nice with no problems, and the return process was quick. The airport shuttle was also helpful. Negativ: Despite being only the second people in line at Thrifty, we had to wait nearly 30 minutes for someone to speak to us. Eventually we were advised to use a booth to speak to a representative over the phone, but no one answered the phone. When we finally were helped, there was an extra $12 per day charge that's we didn't know about (more than the cost of the rental) to pay for tolls. After finishing inside, we were told to pick a car from lots A, B, and C, but when we went outside there were no cars in those lots so we had to wait to talk to someone again. When we finally got a car (a bigger one than we paid for, which was fine and kind of fun, aside from the fact that we ultimately paid more in gas), it looked like it hadn't been cleaned. There were half a dozen empty water bottles in the back seat.

Positiv: Car was clean and still had the "new car" feel.Negativ: Always surprised how underpowered "intermediate" cars are. Drove over Loveland and Vail passes and the car stayed around 4,000 RPMs or more until going down hill.
Thrifty proudly told me I could select any car in the "intermediate" size row but there was only one car to choose from when I went out to select my car.

Speedy service, excellent price and a nice carPositiv: The pickup and drop off process was very efficient and the staff very helpful. It was nice to be able to choose which car I wanted on the lot among all those in the same class I rented.Negativ: The car had an aftermarket video screen with a small camera installed along the front passenger seat next to the consol, I was not told about it, how to use it or why there was a camera in the device. There should be instructions and an explanation left in the car.
Confusing ProcessPositiv: Navigating Kayak to view rental car options and prices was very easy. The car options at Thrifty were great and we had no trouble with the Hyundai Sonata. Negativ: We booked the car online for $44 including insurance for one day. When we arrived at Thrifty, they said it would be two days, and that there was an additional insurance package we needed in addition to what we bought online. Then, they recommended an upgrade because the economy car would struggle with the altitude, so we sized up for $10 (not a big deal). It was very confusing because they don't show you a computer screen or any visual material, so you don't know what they're charging you for and the barrage of numbers and additional charges are hard to follow. Ultimately, what was supposed to be $44 ended up being $198, which was a shock. Thrifty could improve the way they interact with customers so it's easier for them to follow and know what they're buying. Also, it would be helpful if the prices online reflected the prices in person. We would not have rented a car if we knew it would end up being so expensive, but the car itself was wonderful.
