Take a pass on this Positiv: Friendly serviceNegativ: I paid extra money to reserve an SUV. They called me a few days ahead of my booking to let me know that they had overbooked their SUVs and downgraded me to a car and since prices had risen since I booked, they charged me SUV price for a car (over $10 more per day) despite the error on their end.
I had an early flight on my return leg so their shuttle service wasn't running and they explicitly told me to take the Marriott's shuttle service instead. The driver for the Marriott said they had been told not to direct their customers to them, seemed really annoyed, but (generously) gave me a ride anyway. Very embarrassing.
Filthy interior. Blatant lies Positiv: The pickup experience and gals at the front desk were nice. Negativ: The filthyness of the vehicle. Seats were a mess. Crusty residue on the steering wheel. Smelled like smoke.
Dirty Interior Positiv: I liked the fast customer service. Negativ: The interior of the rental was unsatisfactory.
Negativ: got a call the day before saying the car was not available. All they could provide is a lower model without any credit. cancelled the order and needed to re-rent with another company for $150 more.
What a ripoff! Negativ: When I arrived to pick up the van, ACE did not want to honor my contract and tried to insist on a "minimum 3-day rental". I was told that I could not use a debit card without renting for atleast 3 days, and that I would be charged an additional fee everyday unless I used a credit card.

Good service bad carPositiv: The associates were kind, and helpfulNegativ: My 2003 hyundia accent had more features than this car. I know I signed up for economy, but i didn't realize it would only have one key hole, no electric windows, no power locks. Just wish that was more clear when i paid for the car. Needless to say I won't be renting from Ace again.
Negativ: Only needed the car three weeks out of the seven I reserved it for, but they allowed me no refund and charged me for seven days. Car was in poor shape and had high miles for a rental (over 25,000).
Positiv: Friendly and fast service. Our van was new and very clean. I would recommend them.

Excellent clean large vehicle- quick pick up and drop off!Positiv: Easy airport access, fast check out with prepaid rental agreement. Fast check in when car was returned, both people were friendly and helpful. Negativ: Didn't know about all the toll roads in Orange County, wasn't sure how to pay them without toll booths anywhere- had to call Alamo and ask about them as we had already followed our GPS on the phones and used them multiple times that first day- would have preferred to know about them before hand.

"I'll be back"Positiv: When I dropped off the car, I told the attendant, "I'll be back. I like you guys", and she laughed out loud. Got exactly the car I wanted, there were no mechanical or other issues, it went very smoothly. Negativ: There was some refuse in the car that the people who cleaned it from the previous renters, but it did not spoil the experience.
Kayak vs Alamo misalignment; huge truck vs low endPositiv: The manager found us a vehicle to take so we were able to leave the airport.Negativ: We requested a standard sedan; we were told that even though we booked it before we arrived, none were available. We had to take the only feasible vehicle: a huge Ram pickup truck with no trunk or covered storage. We had to wait for a truck to be found and brought up. Thankfully it was not raining on our luggage in the truck bed. We were then told we could exchange the vehicle the next day for the car we wanted, at Santa Ana.

what I got!!!! That never happens...Negativ: I had to sign up on line for fast track tolls
Positiv: Check in and checkout were so easy. I was there for less than 5 min. They were friendly and courteous.
The car was clean and I really enjoyed driving it (Nissan Altima).
I would rent with Alamo again because of this experience.

Positiv: Easy to find & returnNegativ: The car I ordered was not available, The up grade was a Dodge pickup. When we turned it in the bill went from $113.20 to $184.89. We didn't use it so we only drove from Long beach to LAX. I did call Avis and they will give me a credit bringing the bill down to $118.26.
Delayed so they gave our car awayNegativ: Our reservation was for 9, however we were delayed by 50 minutes (not arriving until 9:50) getting off the ship due due a lost piece of luggage. Then we needed to wait in line for 15 + minutes. At the time of check in we were told they only hold the car for 30 minutes and our car was gone. We were required to upgrade at a cost of $15 more.
Didn’t get itPositiv: I don’t know...didn’t get a car.Negativ: The place was overbooked, and although Kayak indicated and confirmed that I had a rental car, and I got an Uber to the facility, there were no vehicles to be had, and I was abruptly notified jay there weren’t any coming in. There really needs to be some way of limiting rentals and preventing this issue (over booking). We had to walk to another agency with our luggage and pay more than intended...much more. But I got a car.
Wouldn't give us a car despite reservationPositiv: The staff at the second Avis we went to (2164 Long Beach Blvd) were friendly and competent, and got us the car we needed.Negativ: The Avis where we reserved a car (264 E. Ocean Blvd) didn't honor the reservation, and gave 3 contradictory reasons why they couldn't. Several other customers with reservations arrived around the same time, and all were told there were no cars. We had to go to another location.

Hidden fees, booked car not availablePositiv: The car itselfNegativ: I booked online on the website. When arrived at rental center the cat was unavailable and no free alternative was proposed to me. Would have appreciated a phone call. I did actually call but of course no one picked up!!!
Overall I paid more than twice the online quote.
Furthermore they did not accept my international visa card which includes insurance. Very poor service.

LONG BEACH AVIS LOCATION A LOSERNegativ: When we picked up our car, they did NOT go over it with us at all.
I walked around the car and found the front bumper was badly damaged.
I found the guy who gave us the keys and he had no idea. He did take pics of it.
When we turned the car in at LAX, the woman there looked at the car
and said to me...what did you do to the car?
I had taken pics of my own, and showed her the pink receipt the guy at
long beach marked up.
Positiv: Was given a truck which ran very nice; unexpected.
Negativ: The 249 East Ocean Boulevard, Suite 104, Long Beach, CA 90802 AVIS location was closed when we went to pick up the car. There was a paper sign on the door: NEW HOURS closed at noon. Terrible location
I'll never use Avis again. Negativ: I received a confirmation phone call the day before travel and spoke with a gentleman at the rental location and gave him my flight information and confirmed that I would be there. He told me there was no airport shuttle and to take an Uber. My flight was on time and I jumped in an Uber and arrived at my rental location at 12:05 (my pick up was at 12:00). The doors to the office were locked and the security guard came over to let me know that it was closed. The location was closed, the guy left early and woull not be back. Now I was stranded in the middle of Santa Anna with my bags after traveling 10+ hours across the country. I contacted Avis customer service and was told that they could not help me because the location was closed and there were no other cars in orange county. The only option was to take an Uber to the Long Beach airport to pick up a car. He offered to give me my same rate. Ha, what a joke! That's all you're going to do for me is guarantee the same rate but I have to take an Uber to another airport? Are you kidding me? Totally unacceptable and horrendous customer service. Needless to say, I was stranded because it was memorial day weekend and there were no cars available with any company. This ruined my trip before it could even get started. Nice work avis.

I bought insurance online same time when I booked my rental but they still wanted me to buy insurance from them @ $17/day. When I declined it, they let us wait for 30 mins until I checked on them again. Ugh terrible customer service. Pleaee use a different rent-a-car company.Negativ: Customer service sucks.
Negativ: They took more than 30 min to give me the car, people who check in later than me got the car first and finally the car was dirty inside and smell so bad and outside was all scratched, but I couldn’t wait any more. The best part was the return was quick and easy. Maybe they give a better service and car when you rent directly with Budget.
Great rentalPositiv: The car seemed clean and new. Pick-up was easy. It was right at the airport, which made pick-up and drop-off convenient. Negativ: I think it was a bit more than what I would have like to have paid, but it was still a decent price.
Poor counter servicePositiv: location of office and car pickup in relation to terminal buildingNegativ: Computers were not working, 45 minute wait to get to checkout counter. Car class we requested was unavailable, we were put into a much bigger car. If I want to drive a tank I will reserve a tank. No extra charge for bigger car, except in gas costs. Computers still down when we checked the car back in 5 days later. That meant a trip back inside to the counter.
Positiv: The car was cleanNegativ: The system was down and I stayed in line for an hour to get the contract. There was no one in the parking lot to help with the pick up and also drop off. They did not print or email the receipt. When I checked my credit card I realized I was wrongly charged and had to call customer service to get it fixed. Now waiting for the receipt and a refund on wrong additional charges! Awful experience
Not the best, but not the worstPositiv: Car was clean, ran well and didn't guzzle gas. Drop off was quick and easy.Negativ: The employee who checked me in and gave me my keys was rather rude (Or just very indifferent. That cannot be a very fun or rewarding job, so I cannot blame him too much). But my main annoyance was with Budget's VIP service. It's all well and good... until you arrive to pick up your car and there is only one guy and you get to watch people go ahead of you in their special line, even if you were there first. If they are trying to encourage people to buy in or whatever to their VIP bullshit, it's not working. All it did was make me want to use another car rental company next time, regardless of price.
Negativ: Unfriendly service at desk. My car wasnt there so made me pay more for something available otherwise would have had to wait. Extortion that’s called.
Got a LemonPositiv: Service was great. Negativ: The inside and outside of the car was dirty and dusty. The attendant touched it up a bit, but it needed a good wash. There was no windshield wiper fluid. The USB slots did not work. The car drove with a little chug. Overall, it was the worst experience I have had with budget.
Bad servicePositiv: The price was okayNegativ: The car was filthy dirty especially the windows this is the second time I've had to return a car to budget for the same thing. I expect clean windows so that I can see. Budget customer service was not very helpful and they overbooked and I had to wait for my car for almost an hour
Negativ: I booked for a compact car, but, they said that I had to wait for a compact car to be available. A full size car was available which I rented for some extra money, of course, because I was in a hurry.
Apparently this was because I was late by about an hour to pick up the car. I have never heard that excuse before....
Go to alamo, at least they smile Negativ: Rudest lady when picking up the car. She had a pissed-off look on her facewhiler sitting on her phone and seemed bothered when I went up. It wasn't quite 1 and she told me to wait until my rental time period. She lied about what car we were getting trying to get me to upgrade. She seemed bothered the whole time. She lied to me about buying their insurance and said it was required. Too bad I just rented a car a month ago in Northern California
Lying EmployeePositiv: The place was easy and convenient to find. Negativ: The agent who checked me in told me that there weren't any cars in the cheap range left, and tried to upgrade me to the next tiered car for an extra $5 a day. A few minutes later, we find out that she was lying to my face, and I ended up renting the same Kia Rio that I reserved. Gas tank was not full. Interior was stained and gross.
Positiv: The Assistant Manager was very understanding, patient and efficient despite all of the demands of him.
Negativ: We just rented the car for 1 day and dropped off

Beware of prepaying for gasPositiv: Friendly staff, relatively quick service.Negativ: I prepaid for a tank of gas and was told that I'd get the difference back at dropoff, but instead I was billed the full amount and was told that the transaction couldn't be modified.
Amazing customer servicePositiv: The staff here is amazing. Super friendly, knowledgeable, efficient. They went out of there way to help me find the perfect car.
Read the fine printPositiv: Our car was clean and was a great price. Negativ: They've recently changed their policy so you cannot secure your vehicle with a credit card and pay cash. Several people in front of us in line had the same issue. The employee working the counter was extremely rude about the change. In his defense, I'm sure he was probably getting yelled at often; but he was extremely unprofessional. As he told me several times, I should have read the fine print, so I'm passing that advice into you now.
No rental carNegativ: I paid a $45 deposit for a rental car that was never reserved so we were stuck without a car. I want a full refund. Terrible service!

Deceptive Toll ProgramNegativ: I was told about Plate Pass, which allows drivers to use electronic toll. I was never told that one of the only roads in the US not covered was right outside the Long Beach Airport. After Hertz had their way with me I ended up having to pay 60 dollars for a 0.25 cent toll. Fraudulent marketing, negligent customer disclosure, and bad service on the backend. After many years with Hertz I am calling it quits.
Excellent customer service and a good valuePositiv: I have rented many cars at LGB airport. This experience with Hertz was the best I've ever had anywhere. Ebony is the reason. She welcomed me with a big smile. Throughout the check out, she was both very professional and friendly. She took the time to explain everything and asked if I had questions. How refreshing in this day and age. The car was great, and the car return was easy.
Was unable to pickup the carNegativ: Was unable to pick up the car - the location booked was closed by the time our flight landed and the airport location could not provide us a comparable rental.
Watch the tollsPositiv: The car was absolutely fine and as expected. Negativ: Hertz neglected to discuss tolls with us. We took a toll road, and did not have an option to pay cash or a transponder. We tried to pay it online but were told we would have to pay it through Hertz. When I called Hertz they were completely unhelpful, and when we dropped off the car we found out we would have to pay a $25 penalty on top of the toll. They claim they have no responsibility for this, but that's ridiculous. This may just be an issue with staff at Long Beach airport, but I was pretty frustrated and angry.

Car was ok, but Hertz sucksPositiv: The size and gas economy of the carNegativ: Car wasn't clean and had SPIDERS!! The front end alignment was off so car shakes at 65mph. No windshield wiper fluid. Headlights were so far out of alignment I was pulled over by highway patrol. they thought i was driving with brights on. And had interior trim pieces that kept fallen out. When I turned the car in and reported all this to the agent she acted like it was all my fault. I told her I wasn't trying to get a discount just wanted them to know the car had issues, thats when the attitude started. Had to call manger out to finish transaction. Never use Hertz again. EVER
Good value for the money, but no option for hands free callingPositiv: Pickup and drop off was easy. Agents were friendly. Negativ: The car wasn't very clean and I was shocked that there was no blue tooth option or any way for hands free calling.
Poor communication Negativ: The car we reserved was not available. The car they gave us smelled like smoke. When we returned the car at 2 p.m., the office was closed, and we had to find the key drop box at another location.
Never using hertz againPositiv: nothing. Negativ: They didn’t have a car for me to pick up. It wasn’t an issue with the reservation. The location had no cars at all. I had to cancel the reservation and call around to other car rental places to find a vehicle ready to pick up. Staff wasn’t helpful at all and gave no answers to questions. The manager of the location just sat in the corner and did nothing.
Easy experiencePositiv: Very nice lady at the counter. No line. Quick checkout. Not too much upselling. Know that's their job though, she read me well. Made the offer but didn't over-push it.Negativ: By no fault of the attendant, I'm always surprised no one makes it a point to make it easy to manage tolls easily. I always remember that once I'm in the car and it's too late to go back.
Worst car rental experience of my lifePositiv: Nothing to likeNegativ: Customer service that I called was incredibly rude and unhelpful. Not only did she audibly exhale in exasperation, when I asked her why the attitude, she promptly replied “it’s a free country”. I asked for a supervisor and she said, “absolutely not!” and hung up. I’m appalled and blown away that Hertz finds this acceptable to treat customers like this.
