Shocked at the one-way fee!!!Positiv: AVIS in Bergen was extremely helpful. Due to the bicycle race we could not return the car as planned. The local AVIS people were very accommodating in agreeing to pick up the car and allowing us to catch our flight back to Stockholm. They could not have been more helpful. The poor rating is solely due to the excessive one-way fees and the failure to explain these to us. Negativ: Nobody unexplained costs for a one-way rental and fact that they could change this fee at their discretion. The Bergen AVIS office increased the one-way fee by 3x (from 4000 SEK to 12000 SEK) without any notice that they were doing that. We did not discover this until we returned from our trip and I checked our credit card statement. The total cost of the 3-day rental was over $2300.00. We feel cheated and taken advantage of and will likely not rent from AVIS again! When I called AVIS customer service I was told there was nothing that could be done....in essence it was our fault for not asking in advance. extremely disappointed.

Charged extra for "mandatory" insurance with no explanationPositiv: The car itself was fine. Negativ: When I arrived in Bergen, Norway, to get the car, I was charged an additional $167 for "mandatory" insurance, despite the fact that I had selected insurance when I made the original rental agreement. I agreed only because I could not rent the car without agreeing, and my itinerary depended on having a car from that day.
Immediately after returning to the US, I researched the "mandatory" insurance, but even Avis was unable to tell me. I am currently in a dispute with Avis through my credit card company.
I also received an additional charge of $25.43 with no explanation. When I requested on, Avis sent documents in Norwegian rather than sending docs in a language I can understand.

Worst experience everNegativ: The address given to us to return the car was incorrect and had us show up at a location that was incorrect. When we dropped the car off at the correct location (which took a while to find), there was a sign on the door telling us to drop the keys off in another location. The other location took us over 30 minutes to find and involved us carrying around all of our luggage all over the street in the rain. It was absolutely the worst experience I've ever had renting a car. I tried calling the 1800 number multiple times and was never able to be connected to someone who could help. I will not be renting from Avis or budget again.

When I questioned it, they said I would have to take it up with customer service at the drop-off location.

Kayak damage waiver insurance did not work Positiv: The car, Keddy,Negativ: Booked through Kayak which offered damage waver ins for £16 for 9 days but Allianz did not confirm could not be contacted for 7 days and then offered insurance at the same price for the remaining 2 days!!! and said Kayak should not have advertised it.
they rang me on my mobile rather than replying to my email and I ran up quite a bill trying to get a resolution. I asked for the matter to be refrred upward and a a formal response by email but never received it and our use of the car was very much curtailed by the lack of adequate insurance. Have complained to Kayak but many others may be caught out by this scam.
