RIP OFFNegativ: Very difficult to get to Milan office, series of one way street, no place to park, stuck in Milan traffic jam for 2 hrs, therefore ,returning the car 1/2 hour late, charged me 100EUROS. Never rent with AVIS again!
Negativ: The agent didn't understand English sufficiently to give us a less expensive car.

Negativ: They Ceized the opportunity to charge us double the rate than the hat we had reserve through internet.
Positiv: Everything ok.Negativ: Total coverage: at AVIS and HERTZ is really too expensive, above all in comparison with other rentals.

Harder than it should bePositiv: Final car was fine. Tough road to get there however. Negativ: Went through multiple cars to arrive at the one we kept. None were clean or what I paid for before that. Also was charged more than quoted on Kayak.
Positiv: receptionist was so kind Negativ: Unfortunately we couldn't take the car in our reservation and we had to pay more money because that car we want wasn't available and we had to go to malpensa airport and change our reservation
Negativ: I asked for a Mercedes E class but after I arrive there they told me that I need two different credit cards I had two mastercards but they said they need a visa or american express after that I had to take anither car which not luxurious car with a reallly high rate for two days because they said I need to make it full waranty to get a Car

Slow slow slow customer service in Milan airportPositiv: The car was fine..could have used a brief explanation of how the automatic shift worked. Wasn't exactly automatic!Negativ: It was the slowest customer service desk I have ever seen. We waited almost 2 hours in line to get a car. Crazy. Come on Milan, you can do better.
Positiv: The people were nice. Negativ: Once we finished the paper work, we were sent to another location to pick up our car. Once we arrived, it took almost an hour to actually get our car. There were about 5 others that had waited a long time also. We were then told our car was parked at another location, so a gentlemen who was very kind drove us there. We pick up the car and find out the gas tank is only half full, not full like it's supposed to be. We then followed the guy to a gas station to fill up the tank. It was a little silly for a car rental to take that long.
Positiv: The car was decentNegativ: The service was HORRIBLE. I had booked a car listed as "SUV- Renegade or similar". The clerk Monica wanted to give me an estate car, Alfa Romeo. When I asked her for the SUv I booked she argued with me that the Renegade is not an SUV!!!! She also called me names such as problematic and idiot , in her native language, when talking to the car manager on the phone. I finally got a Mercedes B200 which when I returned, they told me I made a damage on the bumper. The so called damage was a little blur on the paint which they asked me to pay 254£ for it. The small blur was not even visible with a bare eye. I refused the charge but hey went ahead and charged me a total of 365£ !!!! anyway. A group of crooks trying to rip people off!!! NEVER BUDGET AGAIN!!!

Hate being played for a fool by car hire companiesPositiv: The Nissan Qashqai was a joy to drive and there was plenty of room for all of us and our luggage. The air conditioning was also great. Negativ: We had to wait 1 hour to get our car as they said it was not ready and were continually trying to persuade me to take an upgrade of 35 euros extra per day to take a Mercedes that I did not want and not provide the SUV I ordered. The service assistant Christina was aghast that I refused this offer as claimed the Mercedes was ready but I would have to wait for my.SUV. This was stressful. Only by my wife's patience and persevence standing in the portacabin next to where they issue the cars did they eventually issue the keys to us. The SUV they issued us was sitting untouched the whole time.
They then issued the keys without a walk around or an explanation of the controls.
There were scratches all around the car and the plastic within the boot was broken and I am certain if we had not highlighted these problems beforehand we would have been charged for these on return.
Hope this feedback prevents others trying to be hoodwinked in this way.

Positiv: Friendly customer serviceNegativ: My car ran out of AdBlue, a diesel additive, that budget should have checked. This resulted in my car being stranded for 2 days. Their roadside assistance was not helpful. Also, ALLIANZ travel insurance did not write me back for a entire week! I already returned from Vacation two days ago!

Hard to find, but easy once you find itPositiv: Got a great rate for a convertible.Negativ: GPS I payed for did not have a USB port to charge it in the car (car had no cigarette port to charge the GPS). So it ran out of batteries within 15 minutes.
Positiv: They gave us an upgrade.Negativ: Dollar shares employees with Hertz at the Linante airport. Directions to the rental spaces to get the car were terrible. Never saw a green bridge to cross over! Most importantly,the car's rear bumper was literally duck taped onto the car! The employee at the lot was nowhere to be found. Went back to the rental desk. The clerk came out to look for herself and then said that no one had checked the car that had been returned in the morning. Really? No one checked by 2pm? They had no other car supposedly. Fortunately, my husband is a Hertz Gold member and she provided a Hertz car and an upgrade. The whole process took 90 minutes. Terrible experience.
Off to a terribly slow start but Good overall.Positiv: The price was great, the car (Fiat 500) was perfect for a road trip in Italy and it was a great drive. Negativ: It's terribly complicated to pick up a car at Malpensa airport in Milan. It seemed like every car rental desk had everyone waiting 2 hours to be served. I think Hertz is particularly worse because they only have one desk with a handful or less of agents serving Hertz, Dollar & Thrifty rentals. First, it's not easy to see the signs that Dollar rentals can be picked up at Hertz. I lost a 1/2 hour just trying to figure out where to go to get my Dollar rental. Second, the wait was 2 hours...really 2 full hours on the morning I arrived.
It does not help that Kayak's instructions say that Dollar is "outside of the airport" which is not true. It's with all the other car rentals right in Terminal 1.

When I got there the lady said it's been cancelled and now we had to pay double the price because we didn't arrive on it. I thought we had 6 hours? Then ahe said it's cause office has been closed it's a new day. So I didn't get my rental!!!! So upset

Advertised price is NOT what you pay!Negativ: It would be more honest to include items like VAT and "other fees" that are charged by rental companies so consumer could make more accurate price comparisons. We paid almost twice the advertised price advertised on Kayak. Not happy customers.
They gave me a fricking BMW! Positiv: Seriously, that was a hell of an upgrade. Super clean and basically a new car. My wife and I were pretty stunned.
FYI - Dollar / Hertz / Thrify are all the same company. Negativ: Offices are tricky to find. Better signage or maybe a map handed out at the desk would be good.
It was terrible -- WAY WAY OVERCROWDED. Dollar is Positiv: NothingNegativ: The wait was about 90 MINUTES! I am not joking....so I left after 30 minutes and rented from National.
Good but over priced.Positiv: Good but overpriced.Negativ: Fuel Tank was not full, There were many damages reported at the time of pickup, which they did not disclose. So I had to spend another 20 minutes to let them know and get it vouched before I start my journey. Also there was no clarity in small levies charged over and above the contract value.

Hertz negative experience Negativ: Waited two hours to speak with someone. Car was not ready and dirty. Car was damaged and Hertz reps were rude and not very helpful in answering questions.

It took us almost 3 hours to rent a car and when returning it the worker charged me another day even though when I rented the lady said it was okay to return it at that time. So I ended up paying more and I could've gone to another company.
Positiv: Drop off in PAMPLONA was inconvenient no kiosk and no signs showing that if was a no human being drop off location on a Saturday afternoon

Return in Turin was smooth, staff was friendly. Negativ: When I arrived they told me they didnt have any cars. After an hour and a half of waiting they told me they had a car but they needed it to be cleaned. This took another 40 minutes.
There were 4 employees working but only on window opening. The rest were too busy smoking, laughing and drinking coffee .
It was shocking to see how little regard they had for the customers waiting.
after more than 2 hours one nice lady stepped up and helped me . She was sweet and went out of her way. but this was after 2 hours and a long transatlantic flight.
Mixed service. Positiv: Polite and friendly reception and return staff. Car was brand new so no problems there. Negativ: Booked an SUV (example Jeep Renegade) as was heading for the alps. Apparently SUV doesn't mean 4x4, just a 'multi-purpose vehicle'. Managed to get a fiat 500 L with winter tyres thankfully. Without those I'd have been stuck in resort for sure. Check what you need before booking as I was lucky to get this due to the nice lady at reception.
Milan MXP airport signs don't help as they lead you to the collection point not the desk. Not only that but check which terminal the car is at as ours was at T1 when we flew from T2.
Car didn't have completely full tank as described but as I was told all airport fuel stations are shut on Sundays I was sold the full tank empty return option as I couldn't risk the hassle of trying to find one nearby as they're unmanned too on Sundays. Didn't need the whole tank.
I was also sold the recovery option as apparently the insurance doesn't cover that.
I bought CDW cover separately to save money but overall the cost was a lot more than I'd expected. Another stroke of luck was that the car had satnav, although we couldn't get the language to change to English. Did the job though.

Credit card madnessNegativ: They would not accept a debit card or American Express and therefore refused my family a vehicle even though we had paid using one of the cars. Holidayautos then refused a refund; terrible customer service. I have hired cars in many places without problems but Italy has been the only place to have such bizarre rules
