Pleasantly surprised!Positiv: This is the first time I have used Advantage. The car was clean and ready when I arrived. The process of renting, picking up and returning my car was simple and fast. The best part is that the cost of the vehicle was way less expensive then the other rental car agencies. I’m definitely using Advantage again in the near future.

I was never called or emailed by Advantage asking if i was still headed in to pick up my rental car. they knew i had a reservation. Positiv: The truck wast clean.Negativ: First, this company is listed as 'in-terminal' at the George Bush International Airport, but it really isn't. You have to take a shuttle. The only difference is this car company doesn't have their own shuttle, but uses the airport ones. It just makes it a little confusing to figure out what's going on once you land. It took over 45 minutes for me to get my car, and there were only 3 people at the counter. On the return trip, I was unable to fill up the truck, and I think a fuel change of $150 (for a 1/4 full tank that takes ~$40 to fill) is absolutely ridiculous. They must know what they're doing, because there is no where to fill up the tank near by!

Renegade JeepPositiv: I liked the Jeep for a sturdy and efficient island car. No trouble.Negativ: The car didn’t have a full tank when I rented it out and there was a bit of a funky smell but I got used to it. The good outweighed the bad and I returned the Jeep with the full tank.
Positiv: Drop off was very easy. Negativ: Pick up was annoying. Extra cost for second driver not expected. Used a different company the year before and it was not an extra expense. Service was mediocre. Will use a different company next year.

The desk agent rushed me out and did not offer me any option to request a larger vehicle.
When I went to pick up the car I nearly got run over by an employee who then apologized and asked if I needed help. I said yes and she directed me to a man in a white shirt. He was on the phone and would not give me the time of day, so I gave up and took the Nissan Altima.
The music was turned ALL the way up in the car. Ugh.
Upon leaving the rental center, I mentioned to the gate agent that I did not feel like I got the car I paid for and she said the Nissan Altima was not a FULL SIZE car. But at that point it was too late to do anything about it.
It was a very disappointing experience.

Be carefull with tye drop out location Positiv: If one is travelling to airport and needs to drop the vehicle while returning make sure you get to the right drop of point.

But once dropped one have the option of travelling to airport via shuttle which runs right from there to all terminals.

Don't have a key drop box if you aren't going to trust people and check it more than once a day. Choose someone else other than Avis/Budget for your rental in Asheville. It is NOT worth the headache.

The day prior to our pick up date we received a confirmation email. Upon arrival to the rental place, we were told that the location permanently closed the week before we arrived.
Positiv: Great value for the price I paid. Negativ: Being pushed for additional add-ons to my rental. Other companies I've rented from never push their add-ons. They simply ask if a customer would like *insert additional add-on (such as Toll Pass, GPS, etc).* Made the company seem desperate for a sale and decreased the integrity of the company.
Positiv: Car was OK but seats were too low.Negativ: The lady who received us when we returned the car was unable to give us a receipt so I had to go to the office to receive one. She tried to give me a receipt for $22 which was totally incorrect.
Also, I was told to spend $25 to pre-pay tolls which proved to be unnecessary as we never went through a toll. I had told the guy at the desk that we were going to Sugar Land. Does Dollar pocket the unused $25?
Insurance problemNegativ: Using your website to reserve a car with Dollar Rental it gave me the option to get collision insurance, which I did for the convenience of being able to simply walk away if there was any damage. But then it turns out this insurance is not really with Dollar Rental but with Alliance Global Assistance, a completely separate company that has nothing to do with Dollar Rental. So when I get to the Dollar counter to rent my car and they ask me if I want insurance I tell them I already purchased it. Then they tell me that the insurance I purchased, on your Kayak website, is not with Dollar Rental. I already have excellent car insurance with Amica which would give me exactly the same coverage as Alliance. So the whole reason for purchasing the insurance, which is to be able to simply walk away and avoid the hassle of getting my own insurance to cover a dent or accident with my Dollar Rental, is not there!!! There's no benefit at all over my own car insurance!!
So I would categorize this as a deceptive practice on your part, on Kayak's part. When you offer insurance with a car rental you should make it clear that this insurance is not really with the rental company at all. This is typical deceptive money-grabbing bullshit of a large online company. Probably won't use Kayak in the future.
Great Price...Great vehiclePositiv: Price, vehicle was practically brand new, clean and comfortable. Price was at least $75 less then rentals at other rental agencies. Negativ: Logistics. Had to go to site near major airport to get this deal. Will only go back to this location if I need a weekly rental. Also, car was not ready when I arrived. IWhen car was ready, it was parked in SUV section. but no one informed me that it was ready. I had to go back and ask about the vehicle.
Don’t rent with dollarNegativ: I had reserved a rental with dollar for an arrival time at 1 AM. Dollar even had a prompt to enter my flight number to track the arrival time. I thought I would arrive and take the shuttle to pick it up but I waited and waited only to find out they were closed. I had to call their hotline and was told by an operator that there was nothing they could do to resolve the issue. If you only operate between certain hours of the day you should not give the option to rent during closed hours. Needless to say I will never use Dollar again, my business went to Budget who operates 24 hrs a day.

Poor Experience Negativ: The car we chose wasn’t even ready when we got there, despite telling them a pickup time and everything. They rectified this by giving is a big SUV, at no extra cost. Which might have been good had we not been renting in Hawaii where gas is ridiculously expensive and we didn’t need all of that for just 2 adults and a toddler. Been traveling and on omg we for hours so we just said whatever and took it. Start driving down the road and there’s a terrible scratching noise under the car. a piece of the undercarriage was coming off! Called them. They knew, it had been previously taped on. Again we were exhausted so just said whatever. Checked the car back in today and they filled out an incident report saying we damaged the car! So i am sure this will be an ongoing argument! Won’t be renting from them ever again...

Unfortunately, by the time I arrived at the curb at 10:50, I did not see any shuttle busses for the next hour. When I called Payless, I realized that they closed at 11pm. If I knew they closed at that time, I would have used another rental agency.

They were able to transfer the reservation without a hassle.Negativ: I didn’t get the same price I’d originally agreed to. Whether that was a difference in the pricing at the airport, or because at that point I was working directly with the rental company, or some other reason, I don’t know. Also with Allianz, I didn’t see where they mentioned their coverage was by calendar day rather than 24 hour period. It may be that they figured their ‘per day’ was clear enough, but when you are working with a 24 hour period with the car rental, it’s not unreasonable to expect the coverage to cover the same way...

Left me stranded in the cityNegativ: I booked an economy class vehicle with Payless. When I arrived to pick it up, the employee at the front desk told me that he could not give me an economy class car, since there was only one available, and that he would have to charge me $9 extra a day for a midsize vehicle. I insisted on getting the economy class vehicle, but he swiped my card the wrong way, and told me it was getting rejected. He did the same for my 3 other cards. I called the card company, and they were not receiving any transaction requests. He refused to swipe my card twice, citing company policy. Ultimately, this left me stranded at the airport without a vehicle, and it took me more than 4 hours to find an alternate form of transportation. Please stay away from this location!

HoustonNegativ: It took me almost 3 hours to find the right place as the address listed on the rental paperwork was incorrect. When I finally got to the right place the attendants were short almost to the point of rudeness and even though I returned the vehicle several hours early I still have not had my deposit released.

They never said their hours were limited - opened @9am. We spent an hour calling 800 numbers to found out what to do with the car since we had to be at the airport at 8am. We are told there was nothing they could do. Stopping by their lot early a janitor told us we could drop it off at a competitors. First and last rental with Payless.

Negativ: We wanted to pay cash at the end of the rental and it was so difficult, we opted not to do it. The experience was not nice. We believed we had prepaid tolls for about $60, and then we got a charge of $12 per day, which was way higher thant the $60 we were expecting. Also, what is a recovery fee and why were we charged one. That kind of hidden fee is really annoying and makes me not want to rent from Thrifty again.

Negativ: The $59 "confirmed" reservation turned out to be $75 at the Thrifty counter in the terminal -- "take it or leave it "-- and Thrifty blamed United Airlines ("they do this all the time) for "low-balling" the fees. Been renting for decades, this is a first. Fortunately, I kept a paper trail (always do) -- and am turning it over to the Consumer Protection section of the Office of the Attorney General, Commonwealth of Virginia, to see what they think about this "bait and switch" scheme.

No Cars On the LotPositiv: Absolutely nothing!Negativ: Everything! Pulled up to the Lot and saw no cars. Thought maybe they were in another section as the area was receiving construction. Door opened by a friendly customer representative who proceeded to take my information, check my reservation, tell me everything was a go, but then said we don't have any SUVs which is what was reserved. Lady told me I could wait to see if someone would drop off one but she didn't know how long of a wait it could be. I had somewhere to be so I asked about other available options. Several car options were noted but none sounded familiar so I asked to see the cars. Was walked outside with the representative for her to say o we don't have any cars. No Cars? But I made a reservation! She noted the night before customers requested to extend their reservations. Ummmmm so what am I supposed to do? Well you can wait. No ma'am. How does a car lot have no cars, but taking reservations? I will never use them again! I ended up across the street at Hertz who had exactly what I needed, at a cheaper rate and they had me in and out within a matter of minutes!
Positiv: I liked nothing about the experience with Thrifty and would recommend customers check how they conduct business before you book. Strong arm tactics at the counter when picking up a car. Created enough worry for us that we made calls to our local destinations to find out the truth to this practice of having to buy a toll pass for a fixed rate or face severe fines if there is a violation. Not the kind of thing you want to face when picking up a car at your final destination. Anyhow, locals said "avoid the scam" and we used surface streets avoiding the one single toll I would encounter for the entire week. Negativ: Attempt by Thrifty to upcharge for a toll pass with threats of the severe fines I would pay if there was a violation. I am willing to pay any tolls that I would incur but I didn't even know if I would need to travel on a toll road. An added $60 even if I don't use the toll road in Houston? That is just not ethically correct. Shame on you Thrifty. This will be the last time I use you for my rental car needs.
