Didn't get Car Reserved but......Positiv: Honored rental price/cost from Kayak.....got me in Auto that was satisfactory.Negativ: Reservation was cancelled without my notification......Avis couldn't honor Kayak price for SUV/large rental.

Inconvenient and UnclearPositiv: The car itself was fine, although the back seat needed cleaning. And it was ready at the arranged time.Negativ: The agency did not provide any kind of map, and this was the first time I've experienced that in many years with many car rentals from other companies. The local person was not familiar with local roads to help me get started on the trip. He was not as helpful or polite as I'd expect. Another issue is that I was headed to Massachusetts and planned to take the toll road, and the agent in Rhode Island did not know - or at least did not tell me - of the major change in toll collection there. Since it is not possible to pay cash on I 90, I will be receiving a bill for those tolls, plus additions from Avis and possibly fines. When I dropped the car off in Chicago, the office desk had handouts explaining their e-toll fees. But nothing of the sort was offered in RI where it would have actually helped. I will not rent from Avis again, or Budget, which seems to have merged with it.
Positiv: That the place I went to was able to accommodate me with a standard car. When I returned the car to the airport the lady at the desk was able to help me with my issues at no extra charge.Negativ: When I arrived I was told that my rental was downtown and so took an hour long bus ride there. When the office opened I was told that my reservation had been cancelled and that they did not have the vehicle type (SUV) that I had rented. The person accommodated me, but then called me on the final day and was telling me if I didn't get the car back I would be charged extra. He then told me he was not going to be able to honor me returning the vehicle to airport as I was originally told I could.
Avoid this companyNegativ: They have canceled my reservation without my concent.
Negativ: Scott, the man at the desk, overcharged me and when I pointed out that it was a 2 day rental, not 3, he absolutely refused to fix the problem. He was horrible, very rude, making me wrong. I had my service dog with me & he yelled at me about her. The man should not be around customers.

Great price great service Positiv: Once I contacted budget, they were super helpful about making sure I got the car from their downtown location but was able to return it at the airport location without additional cost. Budget, both the local office I went to on Eddy street, and the national location I called when I was fixing my reservation, went above and beyond to make sure I got the best rate and the car and arrangements that I needed. Negativ: It's not budget's fault, but the KAYAK site included rates and results different from what I was searching for. I was very specific that I wanted to pick up and return at the Providence airport (TF GREEN) ONLY, but I kept getting not only BOSTON LOGAN airport rentals in my search result, but also pricing for various locations all over Providence. That turned out to be so much cheaper in the long run ($145 vs $400, total) and that's peachy, but I only figured that out AFTER I already made the reservation. So, it all came out ok in the end, but it felt disconcerting and a little misleading/difficult to navigate.
Car reeked of cigarette smoke.Negativ: I didn't realize it until I had left the highway that the car reeked of cigarette smoke. Rental locations near my destination were inconvenient and the day I would have been able to switch vehicles, they were closed. When I returned the car, all they would do for me is give me a $10 discount on my next rental. I am allergic to cigarette smoke and was travelling with small children. We had to borrow a family member's car for our stay and only used the rental to drive 1 hour 15 minutes to and from the airport. I'm very disappointed Budget did not do the right thing.

Dishonest about fuel purchase optionPositiv: The car (Chevy Cruze) was very goodNegativ: Agent at car rental desk at airport encouraged fuel rental option, saying it is equivalent of $2.52 gallon which we couldn't get it for nearby (we did see gas for less nearby). I asked "is tax charged on top of that, because then it's not worth it", she said even with that, you won't find fuel for that price in area. After car was turned in, we noticed they did charge 15% tax on the fuel option, which brings it to $2.90 gallon. Agent said to make gas option worth while, we would have to be between empty and 1/4 tank. Who would dare drive the car in on empty? We used 3/4 of tank or 11.25 miles of 15 gallon tank. Which then brings cost per gallon used to $3.87 gallon. I know all the rental car agencies push this, but it's time to be honest with people and give disclaimer that tax is charged on top of per gallon price, and only worth it if you bring the car in on empty.

Positiv: The rate was lower than Dollar rental was going to charge which their rate was unacceptable. Although kayak's rate was lower, for the type of economy car available, Ford fiesta, it could have been lower. The only good thing about the car was the gas mileage. Negativ: The price I was quoted with Kayak was not in Dollar's computer system until I had to show them my email. That shouldn't have happen and even the representative was frustrated.

Vacation Car RentalPositiv: Price, ease of pick up and drop off. The car was clean and ready to go.
Positiv: PriceNegativ: Returned car one hour later than expected due to rain and traffic. Luckily I asked for a final receipt as the price per day went from $19.00 to $64 because I was late. They fixed it but very unhappy with process. Also, there was only one car for me to choose from and the car seats were stained and dirty.
Positiv: It got me where I needed to go.Negativ: The car inspection was expired. On kayak I had filtered my selections to a large car but on arrival they said I picked the "special car of the day" which was of course the smallest. I was disappointed to say the least.
GOOD REVIEW Positiv: My plane arrived late around midnight and they were waiting for me and knew who l was . The agent was friendly and pleasant to deal with. They didn't have any more SUVs in the category l rented in, so he upgraded me from a mid size SUV to a full size SUV. I felt that was good customer service and not a hassle to deal with that could have made the experience bad and have me not want to rent with them again. The return was easy and the billing was correct at the return. Overall it was a good experience.

The vehicle was not externally cleaned well. The detail staff left the entice bottom half of the vehicle dirty. You could actually see where they stopped cleaning. Looked very bad.

Negativ: The car looked like it had bullet holes on the side . The seats were dirty , smelt like cigarettes, the tire pressure was all out wack . Very dangycar as far as mirrors and blind spots . Will probably not rent from hertz again
Not bad hertz experience Positiv: Car great, no snags, great price.Negativ: Two unnecessary issues occurred, it's just greed. They challenged the fact that we had legitimate auto insurance and asked for the name of our insurance company and to sign ridiculous amount of waivers. We rental protection from three separate sources. They just make you feel cheap. Then they asked if we wanted to pre-pay for gas. I said no, there is a gas station 200 yards from the Hertz return location. My wife was handed receipt and we turned to leave, as my wife was folding receipt she saw a $21.50 charge added for gas. So we turned to the agent and said I didn't want the prepay and he replied "oh, my bad" I'm sure it was a mistake, don't you???

The staff at Thrifty was friendly, and each employee did their job efficiently. The return was equally as easy.
