Scam Alert!Positiv: NothingNegativ: The car rental was $10 dollar per day. They forced me two take two types of insurance packages. I had to convince them that my credit card covered all damages. I had to take the third-person liability insurance at a rate of $32 per day I really needed a car as there was no alternative. The total cost for the most basic car was $109 compared to the quoted price of $37. The staff was rude and deceiving. They kept telling me that I had a good deal and that I will not not get any better deal. Also, they insisted that I was told that the reservation called out that additional charges for insurance. After asking them to show me this disclaimer, which actually read "other charges MAY NOT be included in the quote", they insisted on the meaning/translation of it.
The fact that really offended me on a moral level was this: They offered me a GPS device for free because of the "inconvenience" I went through. I declined. When reviewing my receipt, I noticed a GPS device charge for about $15/day. I complained about the charge and I was given a bogus excuse on the grounds that the GPS charge was already included in the insurance package I was forced to take!!!
The other problem was that many customer were in the same situation as I was which created a long wait. I took me one hour to get the car and more than 30 min to return it!

After checking with all the other rental agencies, we finally got a rental car for $175 USD more than our original reservation. I had three people and three oversized bags (including 2 golf hard cases). After a tedious shuttle offsite where I was stranded at Dollar with 3 huge bags, Dollar gave me a Jetta and barely got my bags in. They promised an SUV the following day. It never happened and made it a hassle shuffling the golf clubs across town for the 8 days I was there. Renting at ALAMO was completely misleading and I would have been okay with DOLLAR had the provided the SUV they charged me for.

Car unavailablePositiv: The Alamo agent help put us in touch with a competitor who did have a similar car available. The Alamo agent also helped make sure that we paid on leave the original estimate when we had to change rental car companies. We ended up with a car that seats enough people but didn't carry enough baggage from Hertz. The only upshot was that the Hertz rental lot did not require a shuttle from the terminal.Negativ: The minivan that we reserved was not available when we arrived. We ended up with a smaller car for the same price from Hertz. If you want anything other than a small or midsize car, it is probably worth a call ahead to make sure they have it since they list more cars than they actually have on the site.

We couldn't even see the scratches they were talking about as there were tons of scratches already all over the car. It seemed like a scam! The girl said the rate was higher because of the holiday season. Usually I am out the door with ins and car for $250. This was $375 for 6 days in a Jetta. Seemed like a scam.

(See the dislikes for explanation) Negativ: Know that if you don't buy the full coverage insurance that they sell ($59 US dollars per day) you must buy the $19 US dollar 3rd party liability insurance that does not include damage on the car. You will have to pay for that. Also, they will authorize your credit card for $2000 US Dollars in case there is damage. If you don't have a card that will authorize 2000, you must pay for the $59 insurance.

We tried cancelling but were told it was too late. Our cost for 2 cars was supposed to be $86 but instead became $500. This felt like highway robbery and a very unpleasant start to our family vacation.

This is not a question of comp & coll, but the bsic insurance which you have to pay for. So car comes w/zip insurance which you are forced to buy. The credit cards that allow you to decline C&?C? will help some, but they don't cover basic liability, so you have to pay more or not get the car !!
Buyer beware - hidden fees!Negativ: Hidden fees. The rental for the week was $25 (total), so I thought I was getting a great deal. However, when I checked in I had to get special Mexican insurance for another $150 (total). Basically they give away the car for free to charge you insurance that is hidden until you are checking in at the counter and have no other alternatives.
Not only that, but the gas gauge in the car was always on "full" so I had no clue if/when I would run out of gas. When I returned it, I let them know and they said "it is probably okay". There is no way that it would stay full after driving it for 3 hours.

Really bad experiencePositiv: Nothing to likeNegativ: Reserved a minivan and ended up with a smaller suv with a very tight 3rd row / trunk. It seams like they don't actually have minivans available, but still advertise it. I was traveling with two toddlers and after a 6 hour flight I just wanted to get in a car and go to the hotel and I ended up accepting the smaller car without a price reduction. The car was all damaged (had to take a lot of pictures for proof) and dirty. I got the car with 5/8 of a gas tank and returned it with the same level, but the agent wanted me to pay for a full tank. After arguing for a while I got the agent to accept that I was returning the suv with the same gas level. The price is not even close to what I was supposed to pay... 3X once you include insurance, since they didn't accept my credit card insurance. Overall zero reliability and very bad (and sad) experience.

Upon arrival, they did not have an SUV available so offered us a Jetta. They also don't include mandatory insurance in their quote (doubled the price of the rental). As we could not fit all the people + gear in the Jetta, 2 people had to take a taxi to our destination. +80$. The office was not open early enough before our return flight which again meant another 2 taxi's from punta mita to PVR. The (child?) manager Jaime was openly rude, unhelpful, and unwilling to compromise despite us paying out of pocket for three 40 minute taxis due to their screw ups. He even told us that the taxi we booked through the 4 seasons was "not a real taxi" then suddenly he went back to not being able to speak english. Huge waste of time and money on our vacation. Could not urge you to look elsewhere strongly enough.

The rental rate was very, very inexpensive, but we figured that was because the region didn't have many renters. When we arrived at the rental facility after 6 hours of travel, burdened with our luggage, we were told that there was an additional $38/day rental cost to cover liability insurance. The fact that I have individual auto insurance and rental insurance through my credit card company didn't matter. What a complete and total ripoff. Because the car wasn't absolutely essential, we ended up calling a taxi and paying 1/3 of what we would have paid for the rental. When I make a booking that tells me all taxes and fees are included, I expect that to be true when I arrive to pick up my vehicle.
Process was a total scam the amount required for tNegativ: You get offered a very low rate for the car. But, upon arrival you are forced to buy required minimum insurance, which was quoted at oaver $300. They even lowered it to "negotiate". I've rented cars in Mexico before and I'm well aware 3PL insurance is required in Mexico and your insurance and your credit card insurance does not cover this. It normally ranges $10-15 a day MAX. So for a 7 day rental a $300 charge for this insurance was a total scam and makes it feel very timeshare like game playing. When I rent a car, show the price of the car to me and don't hike the cost of ancillary insurance to make up for the low cost of the actual car rental. It is a very shady way of operating a business and I walked out of the rental place, took a taxi and called it a day.
Excellent servicePositiv: We couldn't remember where to drop off the car when we were leaving Puerto Vallarta, but we knew the office was off site from the airport. We were late for our flight, so we drove to the airport, and the agent at the airport took the car from us and drove it to the office with a very helpful attitude.
