First Time UserPositiv: Price and proximity to airport Negativ: Shuttles don’t run as often as other companies - our car had visible damage from a prior accident.
I guess you get what you pay for....Positiv: What was good? Well, the price was good. And the drivers of the shuttle were helpful and friendly.Negativ: The lines were long and slow. The slowdown, I believe, was caused by the employees trying to make up for the low price. They used scare tactics to try to get you to pay for $6/day till coverage. They told you that there are tolls that don’t let you pay with cash or with credit card and if that happens you will get charged by the car company a $50 administration fee and then charged the toll and possibly a fine! (I just got the app PayTollo and it was fine! I also did not see any unmanned tolls!) when I told him that I was going with the app, he said “make sure your phone doesn’t run out of power, or you’ll have to pay the fines!— which is NOT how the app works!!) they require proof of insurance if you’re turning down their coverage and went so far as to call one couples agent on the phone!
But the WORST PART WAS: The car, a 2017 Nissan Versa Hatchback, we got did not have power windows nor power door locks — including the hatchback. And they gave us the valet key instead of a key that would UNLOCK the hatch! That meant that you could only unlock the hatchback if you crawled into it and put the key in a small slot in the bottom of the door and pushed the switch. If your suitcase was in it, you couldn’t reach the slit and it was near impossible!
If you wanted/needed a window open in the Florida weather, you better have passengers!
Fortunately, we were driving to a single location and staying there for the duration of our trip. We pulled our suitcase out of the back and left it locked. If we had been traveling from place to place with our luggage, it would have been miserable! How ANY company can rent a vehicle with crank windows and without power door locks is beyond me!!
Okay if there is nothing else ...Positiv: Not much at all.Negativ: Had to wait for the courtesy van while watching another offsite parking vendor's van come and go three times [twice with the same driver]). They didn't have a car ready when I got there, so I had to wait for it. It was fairly clean on the outside, but every single seat had a stain on it. When I returned the car, there were at least 6 parties trying to rent or return with two agents working and a third milling around behind the counter. If there is no other alternative, this will suffice - this was the only reason I rented with Ace. In the future, I'll rent from someone else.
Positiv: priceNegativ: car had a tire that needed air, the shuttle had exposed metal where the seat belt clip should have been and my daughter-in-law got a terrible cut from it. The employees were very stressed and the office very low rent. Also had 5-month expired tags and we got a ticket.
Positiv: People are niceNegativ: Originally gave me a car without a fob for remote access and without typical features. Then second car had a lot of stains on all the seats and over 23k miles on it.

No way to know if this was it but it hadn't been used elsewhere is a week+
I did not pick up my rental for several reasons.Negativ: The wait time in the rental office.
The additional charges for $6 per additional driver. $25 extra per day for the additional driver under 25 years. That's $31 total.
The additional call in to verify insurance when I handed them the insurance card that clearly states it's me.
Overall, it was very hard to understand how my original cost was $150 and increased to $300 at the rental office. I politely left without renting the car and went to Enterprise.

The signs at Tampa airport were terrible re: where to catch the shuttle. The car we were assigned was filthy and smelled terrible! We were then assigned an OK Toyota Camry. I will not use ( dis) Advantage again!

Rental car in TampaPositiv: The nicest part of the rental experience was the staff. Especially when I returned my car.
The shuttle van to the airport was delayed, and I was running late, so one of the staff members very kindly said he would drive me. Negativ: It took a very long time for the shuttle to arrive at the airport when I first arrived in Tampa. But once it finally came, we headed directly to the rental location.
The car had a fair amount of scratches and dings, so it took quite a while to fill out the inspection sheet.
The car was adequate (a compact), but not the cleanest.
THEY DONT PICK UP THEIR PHONE EVERNegativ: Tried to call them several times bc I left my wallet in the car and I was at airport, they never picked up phone or returned my call. Also the car they gave us had no car charger available. Both cigarette lighters you plug them into were disabled so my entire vaca I was driving around with a dead phone
Long Unexplained Waiting for the shuttlePositiv: NothingNegativ: It took a long time for a shuttle to arrive at the airport. Myself and another couple had to take a cab to their location which wasn't more than 5 minuted. When we go there the associate at the counter was not very understanding and lied that the shuttle came by. Lots of people had been waiting for over 30 minutes. We saw several other companies' shuttles go by multiple times before a single Advantage shuttle showed up.
Great car - great pricePositiv: The only downside is that it is off airport - but it is very close to the airport and there is a gas station nearby to top off your tank.
Negativ: Car had black marks on the rear - looked like an old dirty car.

We asked if we really would need it, couldn't we just pay the toll. We were told some tolls u could pay and some not. With our gps we figured we could make it work. ALL toll roads in Florida are now no pay...the take a pic of your plate. And here's maybe why we were given a choice...the average toll is a little over one dollar. The fee we will be charged for the 2 times we drove our car will be 25.00 EACH trip. Talk about inflation! Yes, we were trying to save money..but I feel if this option had been fully explained when questioned about we would've left Florida without feeling screwed.

Its unusual to Negativ: Please update the hours on your brochures that you are indeed 24/7. When I called the 800# to clarify hours of operation, I was given the wrong information. The brochures and maps also reflect incorrect hours of operation. This led to much confusion and inconvenience when planning car drop off in order to make flight.
Negativ: First of all, I stand in line to pick up my rental only to be told that they need to see proof of insurance to pick up my vehicle. They told me that only residents of the state of Florida need proof of insurance. I'm currently stationed in Germany and didn't have proof of insurance on me and this is the first time I have ever needed proof of insurance and I have rented with many companies before. I ended up having to call another department within my insurance company to get proof of insurance because it was 10 pm and they were closed. After I got proof of insurance I was told I still needed to pay for the insurance through the rental company because my insurance wasn't enough and that they wouldn't release the rental to me unless I paid for their insurance. I had to pay $24.99 extra a day for 10 days ($249.90) in order to get my rental car. Then a few days after getting my rental car I was pulled over because the paper license plate they had on the car had flown off. I had to take the rental car all the way back to advantage in Tampa in order to get this issue fixed which took me away from my family.

WORST PICKUP EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFENegativ: Upon landing at Tampa int airport at 515am, I went directly across to the rental building. With 4 people in front of me, I knew I'd be waiting a few minutes. 2 AND A HALF HOURS LATER I was finally helped by the sole employee working. Not only was this woman working with no help, she was the slowest moving human I've ever seen. My check in experience was almost 30 minutes long. Most of this time was watching her try to find the keys to my car in a box of probably 50 car keys. When she couldn't find it, she gave me a car I specifically told her I didn't want. Then continued on with the process. At 755am I finally got up to the car only to discover my internal fear was correct, our child's stroller didn't fit in the trunk, which was why I didn't want a corolla. There was no apology for any inconvenience of my time AT ALL. This woman needs to find anot her job immediately where it is appropriate to work so slowly. I WILL NEVER rent with avis/budget again.
Okay but they try too hard to up sell you add-ons.Positiv: Easy process from acquiring the keys to dropping off the car.Negativ: Pre-charging customers for fuel. I never had to pay for fuel ahead of time when I denied pre-fueling. I always opt-in to refuel the gas myself. Although I got reimbursed it was additional time I had to take out of my time to get a refund.
Nice rental.Positiv: Fast easy service.Negativ: Vehicle had no washer fluid and was begging for an oil change on the dash before i brought it back. Besides these things, the vehicle performed flawlessly.
Kayak is misleading Positiv: All my previous car rentals off the airport had a shuttle to the lot. This did not. Beware of Kayak listings.
Location SwitcherooNegativ: I wanted to rent a car at the Tampa Airport. Kayak switched the location to an off-site location, which I didn't realize until I went to pick up the car. Since I didn't want to have to take a cab to the off-site location, I ended up getting a car from the Avis Tampa Airport location at substantially more money. I am extremely disappointed in Kayak.

I called to tell them I was running late, and the manager told me he could only give me an hour. I told him I needed more time, but he said he could only hold it for ONE hour.
I don't understand WHY - if I have a reservation, and I call to confirm it and explain my delay it can't be held longer?!
He was very rude, and it appeared that he didn't want to hold the car because it was the only one holding him in the office (at 2:00 PM).

Not greatPositiv: Unfortunate timing: I picked up the car when the rental agencies were located in terminal but they moved off terminal the next day so that I had to drop off at a new location off terminal with a very bumpy train ride to the terminal. It wasn’t enterprise’s fault but the Tampa airport expansion now requires you to take this train from the rentals to a confusing interim location and then take another train to get to the gates, with insufficient signage. Negativ: The man who showed me to my car was very nice but I have to say that it felt like a scam when he first asked me did I want to upgrade (and pay the difference) from the economy car I had reserved (I did not) and then upgraded me anyway because there were no economy size left — so had I said yes I would have paId unnecessarily instead of getting the upgrade at no extra charge per standard practice when no cars in your reserved class are available. He then tried a hard sell on getting me to purchase insurance, to the point of scare tactics no other rental agency has ever used on me (“you’ll pay the rental rate every day after you return the car until your insurance company settles the claim”), which left me feeling extremely paranoid the entire trip, when I have used my own insurance for rentals every time in my 20+ years of renting cars (and never before felt so paranoid about some other driver dinging my rental).

Rip OffPositiv: The price was right going in. But renter beware! The will find a way to gouge you!Negativ: I picked the car up at 3am in a poorly lit parking lot. Afterward u noticed some pre-existing damage on the car. After several 20 minute dropped calls u spoke with the manager Sam. He interrupted me as I was explaining the damage on the car. No problem! Just let them know when you return the car! Complete lie! I go to return the car. I explained the situation. The guys first response: Sam is not here! Fill out this accident report! When I told him I was going to write a poor review he just laughed! Eventually Sam came over and said I signed off on the car so therefore I was responsible! I intend to pursue this through the media!
Negativ: they advertised the rental as being in the terminal-not via a shuttle from the terminal. i booked the car due to a medical emergency for visiting my father in the hospital and when i got to rental car and as told i had to take a shuttle, i was frankly ticked off and had to rent a car at a higher rate from the terminal. my travel time was time sensitive so this was not a good experience. that said, i could have made a mistake when i rented the car and not seen the "shuttle" caveat to the rental but i don't think that was the case.
Cheap for a reason. Positiv: Drop off in Orlando was quick and friendly. Negativ: Pick-up in Tampa was a nightmare. Two shuttles passed us at the airport even though we waived at them (they were not full). We waited for s shuttle for more than 40 minutes. Them we waited in line to rent the car for an hour and 15 minutes. There were only 5 renters ahead of us in line. Very slow!

No car for youPositiv: NothingNegativ: Could not get the as described by Kayak. Fox wanted to tie up hundreds of dollars I did not have. Took an Uber to my destination and will never use your services or their services again.
Negativ: It was an awful vehicle that had a moldy smell inside. Also had to put air in then tires and fill up the washer fluid
WePositiv: I don’t have much that I did like. I guess I could say I like the color of the car that’s it! Negativ: Where do I start... first of all it took over 2 hours for the fox shuttle to show up at the airport to Fox facility to pick up our car. Then as we are getting in the car my hubby said to the girl that brought our car to us, “ I hope the car is clean inside, the last time we rented a car from Fox car was filthy and “her response “I wouldn’t count on it”. She was right the car stunk and still had the previous renters contract in it other miscellaneous toys and was dirty. Had to buy a car freshener that still didn’t get rid of the smell was so bad. Last but not least when we return the car to Fox we had to wait another hour for the shuttle and we almost missed our plane. We got there and were the last to board the plane, we were so late. Never again will we rent from Fox!
Off airport rental was easy and much cheaperPositiv: This Hertz was located st a Ramada about 2 miles from the airport and at the time of booking, was considerably cheaper. It was a quick ride there and no lines! Negativ: I didn’t know that the hertz closed at 4p on saturdays which was the exact time of it rental. Our flight got in at 3:30. If we hadn’t gotten lucky and a prior renter had no credit card so took a really long time which kept them open until 4:05, we would have been out of luck.

But it was off property so it cost me 25 dollars for a taxi ride witch I didn't expect .Then it cost me another 35 dollars to change the drop off to the Tampa airport .So not real pleased good rate but not really because off all the hasel and extra 60 dollars .
Pay very close attention!!Negativ: The problem started because the search engine allowed an off airport rental location in results with nothing to show a non native Floridian that this was the case. Flight arrived 30 min late. went to TPA rental counter for Hertz and was told to go to an offsite location to get car but they neglected to tell me it closed in five minutes!! I arrived there to an empty desk and subsequent calls to Hertz yielded absolutely no help or even an apology. They Finally cancelled (90 min later) and said a refund would be issued without a penalty. Gee thanks. Stuck with no car.
The car was great to drivePositiv: We rented a Chevy Malibu and I was very impressed with the smooth ride and features. We picked the car up from a off airport location that gave us a huge savings. Negativ: The drop off showed 24 hrs, but we could not find a Drop off box. But we got lucky because an employee was outide cleaning cars 30 minutes pior to them opening and he was very nice in assisting us with our drop off.

When I signed up I said the Tampa airport - felt very foolish and deceived. quoted $161.00 paid $278.00 - will be much more careful in the future.

I put in TPA for airport and was given an offsite location. I thought I was renting from airport and went there first. Big disruption to my plans. Ultimately my fault for not paying attention to the address, but also very confusing process that I was clear I wanted airport.

No notification was given and no sign posted at the location that the rental car location had been moved to the airport There was at least 10 cars in line to be returned at this closed location Westshore dr location.. Finally a man came and told us the location had changed.
A car rear ended my rental, I called Payless and they opened a case number and told me to give the police report to the return booth person when I returned the car..The girl in the payless booth said they knew nothing about this accident would not take the police report and gave us a fax number and a form for Avis. She said they had moved last night at midnight and could not assist us on anything. The attendant who checked the car in wrote on the window with a white marker "damaged car". The train to take us to the main terminal from the rental car was not working properly and had another 20 minute wait .I completed a form with my insurance company.

OverchargedPositiv: Offered a great rate. Negativ: Did not honor the rate nor review the charges at time of return. Handed me final charge and sent me away.
Trannie felt like it was goingPositiv: Cheap but I see whyNegativ: The car took forever to speed up and in Florida roads are 50 miles per hour we almost got hit multiple times and when we let your workers know they didn't really seem to care at all.
Negativ: Estimated total cost was $89 and they charged me $270 for a two day rental. I will not be using them again
Things are changing.Positiv: Price was excellent. Check-in was fine. Drop off even better. I was told my tolls that were pay-by-plate would go directly to my credit card, and the same with the gas. Upon check-in, I was told their gas prices were cheaper than the stations around the area. We will see when I get my bill.
Positiv: I like that they are relocating to the airport. I liked the ease of the transaction. Pick up/Drop off was a breeze. I appreciate the free shuttle.Negativ: Compact car was over priced. Def not a fan of the Ford Fiesta...weird suspension. Shuttle driver had a short temper. He was yelling in another language laying on the horn and banging on the steering wheel while another shuttle in front of us was disembarking passengers.
Positiv: The care was nice.Negativ: I would never use this company again. Consumer Affairs unaccredited brand. Agent circled incorrect boxes when I told her I wanted no additional coverages, and then had me sign. Gave me an estimate of potential charges, and explained my actual charges would be my online reservation. This was a total lie. Ended up being twice the amount agreed to online. RENTER BEWARE!

Added sneaky extra chargePositiv: Reservation anount a good value and car was fine.Negativ: This is a very dishonest company. They added an undisclosed extra driver fee that I now have to contest. It is more than 50% of the original price. She never even drove the car. I just listed her in case of emergency since the clerk said there was no fee for that. He lied.

Positiv: Thrifty makes it quick and easy to rent a car and they don't pressure you to buy all the extra "stuff" that you don't really need.Negativ: If you can't find a gas station to gas up at the end of your trip it is $9.00 a gallon, which they do not tell you.
seamless-easy!Positiv: nice clean car, upgraded because the one I had booked was not available. in and out with no problems. Return was so fast and easy!Negativ: i was told to bring a receipt for gas that was purchased within 10 miles of the airport. which I did and it wasn't easy. They were only interested in the tank being full and where it was purchased .
EXPENSIVE and CLUELESSPositiv: The guy who handed me the keys and gave me CLEAR directions at the pick up window was great! He knew where I was going and understood my concern about tolls etc. because he asked me what my concerns were and where I was going...Imagine that, a person in customer service type job who ASKS the customer what their concerns are and offers sound and concise direction. A solid employee who listened, reacted, directed and wished me well. Thats what its all about.Negativ: The gal who handled my reservation was CLUELESS and gave ZERO direction. She did not ask questions and gave poor and inaccurate instruction regarding GPS in the vehicle and gave no clear and concise instruction on how to avoid tolls since there was no sunpass in the van. She NEEDS training or perhaps a different job. The drop off was another mess...The signs CLEARLY say drive up to a line yet there was NOBODY there directing the returning customers to do so. When I did so I waited 10 minutes before anybody came to check my vehicle out despite there being at least 8 people working. A TOTAL cluster of utter incompetence.
