Alamo at Puerto Montt Airport, ChilePositiv: The car rental was just outside of baggage claim and easy to find. The staff was friendly and knowledgable. We were able to get by with the little Spanish we knew. It's important to stay for the inspection once you return the car rather than just drop the keys in the dropbox. Negativ: Returning the car was a bit confusing since many of the other operators had designated parking areas and Alamo didn't. Your best bet is to try and park in a spot close to where you picked it up.

He even did us a big favour by picking up the car inside the city instead of for us to return it at Puerto Montt airport.Negativ: I have not received the receipt yet. No One Was At Rental Car CounterNegativ: Arrived at 20:15 on February 19th because Latam flight from Santiago was delayed over 5 hours.
When I went to counter to pick up car, NO ONE WAS THERE. Checked with Information at the Airport and they tried to call the representative twice but to no avail.
MAYBE ITS TIME YOU DID A SPOT CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR STAFF ARE WORKING THEIR FULL SHIFT.
Horrible service Positiv: Someone from another rental agency saved our tripNegativ: We reserved an automatic but they didn't have any. Also misled us about the need to get paperwork to cross the Argentine border. Ended up having to rent from another agency
Booked rental not available and no suitable replacNegativ: We "booked" an automatic car for an extra $100 & when we arrived there were no automatics left. Ended up going kiosk to kiosk and after 6 others found a car and had to pay $200 more for car.
Complete failurePositiv: NothingNegativ: They did not have the car I requested. They did not even have a single automatic car rental available so I had to shop around for an hour at other rental agencies. Terrible experience.
Don't expect an Automatic transmission!Negativ: Ridiculous that we paid more to reserve an automatic transmission, only for them to say "no automatico" when we got there. We then had to scramble and go to another company when we didn't speak the language and it cost us more. If you're traveling internationally, use Hertz instead.
Positiv: To able to drive an automatic carNegativ: The sealing rubber of the winshield came off while I was driving in a highway. It was scary and dangerous. Same thing happened with the back sit windows. In a city where it rains almost every day it was a serious problem. The people were excellent. The car was not in good shape
Your quote and Allianz Positiv: Nothing Negativ: Your quote was $200. The cost for the same car was $600. Then with your special offer which I relied upon, I got the global Allianz insurance. Thought you would steer me right. I was wrong and it was costly. When I got to Chile they told me that I could. It use it and that if I refused their insurance it would cost me $4000. Yes $4000. So I had to take their insurance even after relying upon kayak special partners. Thanks for costing me an extra $400. Thanks.

Rental place did not have car for us Negativ: We were told at pick up that they did not have the car size we reserved for us. They offered much smaller car for the same prize. We had way too many bags and demanded larger car. After having to fight with them and wait and hour and half they provided a larger car for an extra charge each day. A car that was not suitable for rental. It felt like we took someone's personal car...

Not only was there not one available (in a country where manual is the standard), but the person at the Alamo counter was rude, indifferent, and completely unhelpful assisting us. We actually received some help from multiple other counters, who finally were able to connect us with a company with an automatic available.

Waited for nearly an hour at the desk, as I'd prepNegativ: I arrived at 1830 at night to Puerto Montt, a small airport in Chile. I had a prepaid reservation, so got my luggage and went to the Budget counter. There was no agent there, but two "If you need help, please call xxxx-xxxx. I called the first number, and the cell phone was sitting on the agent's desk, not with him/her. So I called the second number, and a second phone that was sitting on the desk rang. So the agent didn't have either phone with her. I asked the agent at desk next door, and she said "the agent went for a cigarette break, and will be back in 10 minutes". So I waited. For 45 minutes, s/he never came back to the desk. Finally, I paid twice as much to rent a car from another company. Now, I'm having trouble getting my money back. What a crock of s*&t.

Manual transmission, apparently, is common (I like it).Negativ: GPS really is needed, or at least some detailed maps, as streets in the region are often not identified with signs. Google Maps saved the day several times!

We were obligated to take the car for seven because we didn"t have any choice.
