Positiv: Schöne Lage oberhalb vom Meer, gepflegte Anlagen im Umfeld. Das Haus ist gepflegt und beinhaltet ein Tea-House. Der Empfang und alle weiteren Kontakte waren absolut freundlich. Full English Breakfast (lecker) und Kaffee am Morgen. Parken von 6 p.m. bis 9 a.m. an der Straße ohne Gebühr. Mein Einzelzimmer lag zur Stadtseite und war sehr ruhig. Sehr übersichtliche Raumgröße und Bad :-) (es bestand keine Gefahr, links oder rechts von der Toilette zu fallen). Dusche ausreichend groß. Ich habe ich super geschlafen und mich in dem Haus sehr wohl gefühlt.

Positiv: The breakfast was very good, tasty and very filling which set us up for the rest of the day. The location was superb and within easy reach to all Southend's amenities and finding lifts down to the promenade was an added bonus. The discounted parking charge is excellent value and was easily set up by the guesthouse owner with no hassle.

Negativ: The only downside was having the bed right next to the wall so only one side had access to a bedside table and direct access to the bathroom, without having to climb over the other person should you need to get up in the night. An additional shelf in the bathroom would be useful too. Having said that we were aware when we booked it was a small double room so for a short 2-day break this did not spoil our stay at this lovely guesthouse.

Positiv: Lovely hotel. I booked a small double as I was on my own. My room was small but perfectly formed. Beautifully furnished, quality bed and linen, robes, slippers and toiletries. Also lots of sockets with USB points. Very friendly staff and the breakfast was lovely and great value. Look forward to returning.

Positiv: Abgesehen von unseren Problemen könnten wir uns einen sehr netten Aufenthalt in diesem Haus vorstellen. Frühstück war wirklich gut - die mutmaßliche Chefin war auch sehr nett und aufmerksam. Die Zimmer - wir konnten ja 3 kennenlernen und in ein 4. (mit Meerblick!!!) einen kurzen Blick werfen sind individuell mit netten Details eingerichtet. Der Blick vom Frühstücksraum auf Meer ist ebenfalls sehr schön.

Negativ: Wir hatten leider Probleme mit unserer Buchung. Hatten ein 3-Bett-Zimmer gebucht doch nur ein Doppelzimmer war reserviert. Es wurde uns dann ein Dreibett-Zimmer - jedoch andere Ausstattung als gebucht (kleiner) angeboten - musste noch hergerichtet werden. Nach mind. 20 Min. Wartezeit haben wir uns erlaubt nachzufragen und nur die knappe Antwort erhalten, wir können (mit Handbewegung auf eine Zimmertür) dieses Zimmer für die 3. Person nutzen .... Ähnlich ging es uns bei der Abreise - hier haben wir vergebens mit 2 weiteren Familien versucht uns zu verabschieden ... niemand hat auf unser klingeln oder klopfen reagiert - also alles ein bissl eigenartig. Aber vielleicht lag es ja an der "Tagesverfassung", wir hatten ja nur für eine Nacht gebucht ...

Negativ: Almost booked a nearby place at half the price, but was swung by the prospect of an 'Executive Room'. The Waverley has some really lovely rooms... but not all of them it seems, & unfortunately the room we got was a disappointing one - duvet had cigarette burn; carpet was most stained I've ever seen; room was cramped; had to stand on the bed to operate tv from the top (no remote). It's a shame as some rooms looked great, but that just makes it even more disappointing when you pay the same money for one of the poorer ones. We asked if there was another room - but they were all reserved, which shows that people in the know, do return. For a lovely stay ask for one of the more recently refurbished rooms, otherwise you might be disappointed

Negativ: Heating didnt work. toilet was heavily stained and smelt, holes in the sheets blinds didnt close at the bottom, had to stand on sofa to draw the curtain. fire alarm sounds 'fire in zone 1. there wasnt any members of staff on site so I dealt with it, muting the alarm and calling a number. My guess is a smoker but if it hadnt been we could have been in trouble

Negativ: The reception lacked warmth, but efficient. The hotel is more a motel, so our room was outside and as it was raining a bit uncomfortable. if our room had been further away we would have been upset.. We thought we were booking an hotel room and was unaware of the outside buildings.

Negativ: Wer ein Problem mit Insekten hat, dem würde ich davon abraten, in diesem Hotel zu übernachten. Wir hatten in unserem Zimmer Kellerasseln und Moderkäfer (lebend!). Außerdem sind die Wände sehr hellhörig. Geräusche aus dem Nachbarzimmer waren laut und deutlich zu hören.

Negativ: This hotel or at least my room would benefit from a major refurb. Green limescale on shower head, bath curtain hanger all rusty, carpet full of stains, even in the corridors, the smell of old and wet, window did not close fully as one of the handels was loose. And to top it off I found a live butterfly on the window. I did not complain as I stayed just 1 night and I'm quite convinced other rooms would be just about the same.

Positiv: Stayed for one night before flying from Southend airport. Bit of a strange place, but the rooms were clean and the reception / bar staff were friendly. It suited our needs for a quick one night before an early start. Quick cab ride into Leigh-on-Sea for dinner.

Negativ: Although it is not far from the airport, it is not possible to walk to the airport. I travelled on the train and had to get a taxi from the train and then in the morning back to the airport (c. £7.50 each way) . Consider this when compared to the other airport hotels. - The two big problems with the hotel were- 1. The carpet in my room was physically soaked by the door to the bathroom. I did not realise to just before I was going to sleep as I had my shoes on before. I left very early in the morning and there was nobody at reception to tell them in the morning. I had read a number of reviews saying that the place smelled like there had been a flood. It would seem to me that the issue is more fundamental, whether it's a plumbing or a ground water issue, there are some serious issues. 2. More annoying probably, the WiFi didn't work. I needed to do some work and had to tether to my phone to get any internet.

Negativ: WiFi - I was allocated a room in the Anex building. Property was advertised with free WiFi but there was no internet connectivity there. Called up reception and they advised me you only get WiFi in the main building. I really needed WiFi so in the end I had to tether my phone with my laptop and use my phone data. Heating - Also the air con continuously blowed cold air when I wanted the heating on. Had to contact reception 3 times to get it sorted. Bathroom - countertop edges rotting away and was sellotaped down along the side. Towels looked really old so was not sure if they were just re-folded / washed. Overall - the room was a little out dated. Need a bit of TLC. Staff were great and excellent breakfast.

Negativ: it was terrible. it is impossible to sleep because the head was below the legs. mattress like chewed on which it was impossible to sleep

Negativ: Zunächst wurde mir ein winziges Zimmer im 4. Stock zugewiesen, das außer einem Bett und einem Waschbecken kaum noch Platz zum Drehen ließ. Ich habe auf meine Buchung hingewiesen, in der "eigenes Bad" stand, Daraufhin bekam ich ein Zimmer mit Bad. Der Raum war inkl. Bad ca. 7-8qm groß. Das Bett wies Verfallsspuren auf, eine Bettkastenschublade hing seitlich raus, ein klappriger Kleiderständer stand in einer Ecke, es gab keinen Schrank. Der Frühstücksraum erinnerte an eine Kantine. Einzig das Personal war auf Rückfragen bemüht.

Positiv: Very nice place. The service was excellent. The people there are so friendly.

Negativ: Shower didn't have hot water at the third floor, no one around to help.

Positiv: Loved the friendliness of staff and the helpfulness nothing was too much problem. Resolved the loose door lock very quickly which was great. Bed towels shower room clean and comfortable.

Negativ: Would have like a small hair dryer in the room. A table lamp or over head lamp for reading. A bath mat for the shower.

Positiv: Das die Besitzer, sich um sämtliches kümmern... Taxi rufen etc...

Negativ: Toilette und Dusche muss man sich teilen... Wie im Hostel

Negativ: It was excellent all round, if I was forced to say something negative, it would possibly be that the hotel in places needed modernisation, or that in a very cold morning the front lobby is chilly.

Negativ: Schwachsinniges Park-Bezahlsystem. Man muss App herunterladen und 2,5 Pfund bezahlen. Hat mit Anmeldung lange gedauert. Trotzdem hing ein Strafzettel am Auto. Strafe 70 Pfund. Da ich gezahlt habe, muss ich jetzt herumtelefonieren. Nervig.

Negativ: Parken vor dem Hotel mußte unbedingt bezahlht werden. Die Bezahlung ging nur in Verbindung mit einem Smartphone, einem Internetzugang und einer Kreditkarte. Die bezahlung in Bar vor Ort für 2,50Pfund war nicht möglich. Sehr schlecht---------minus minus minus absolut ärgerich

Positiv: The staff were very helpful.

Negativ: Room was dark, scruffy and without warmth or feeling. Didn't want to spend time in room. Breakfast was average. For the price we expected more.

Positiv: Breakfast was fine. Range of items available was adequate. Location was a few minutes walk from Cliffs Pavilion. we attended a show during the evening of arrival

Negativ: Some noise from a heating system over night. However it was not loud and we were able to sleep reasonably well

Positiv: The friendly smile that greeted me at Reception, my fears of not being sure if am in the right hotel, bearing in mind it was raining cats and dogs, I couldn't hold an umbrella because my hands are occupied with hand bag and luggage.. Superb location, 10 minutes walk from Westcliff Station for a 76 year old pensioner, dying to see her idol, Daniel O'Donnell's concert that night at the Cliffs Pavilion, just a stone throw from my hotel, and strolling back to the hotel, unaided, after 11am, and tucking myself into my warm bed, and sleeping like a baby, no noise, no beds singing, or cocks crow to wake me up. Priceless, 100% satisfaction that money can't buy.

Negativ: No adverse comments but positive stories.

Positiv: The room was lovely and clean, the bed was comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. The view from the hotel room was wonderful and it is very well located for the Cliffs Pavillion Theatre. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we would stay again and would highly recommend this hotel.

Negativ: The lift Is very tiny Which meant making two trips each time because of wheelchair. Disabled access to the hotel is not the best for wheelchairs when you are managing luggage as well.

Positiv: The staff were super helpful and helped me sort out a refund of the second room I had booked as my friends had a family emergency.

Negativ: The bed was so uncomfortable. The mattress was sunk on one side. The wind was whistling around the windows. We hardly slept all night. The bed was made of two boxes at the bottom which were different heights!! We found red nail clippings on the bedroom floor.

Positiv: The room was clean and as I expected it to be

Negativ: There was noise from other rooms late at night and I could not sleep

Negativ: Place was awful, the room smelt of damp, paint all flaking off the walls, cobwebs,TV aerial disconnected & had wires all hanging out. Shower room really dirty. Inside the bed had all hairs in it. Appeared to be a shared house & people arrived home from 1am drunk, using the kitchen, slamming all the doors in and out and then we proceeded to hear a woman vomiting until 5am. Possibly the worst place I have ever stayed.

Positiv: Rooms were good. Bed was comfy

Negativ: Room was not clean (bed unmade and dirty towels on floor). Had to wait an hour and half for it to be cleaned.

Negativ: Can be hard to find A little bit confusing with how to get in but it's keypad passcode once you know you won't forget Lack of staff of there are any problems then you need to call there number

Positiv: House was clean and modern, with good beds.

Negativ: The "logon" procedure was very cumbersome - when I book a hotel with booking.com I expect it to be booked. But I arrived at the hotel then had to fill out a few online forms, including photos of my ID and credit card (always sketchy) to get access to the front door and room numberpad codes. Then it took me more than 15 minutes to actually get the code - all the time waiting on the stoop of the hotel. Then, our room did not seem to have a toilet or shower, and the only "toilet" I found in the hallway was filled to the brim with cleaning materials. It turned out there was a key in our room that gave access to a separate (private) bathroom, but that was not made clear until after a chat via the website. All in all, I wasn't able to use a toilet until 45 minutes after arriving at the property. Also, it is quite a walk to the nearest bus or train stops.

Positiv: It’s convenient and caters for almost everyone.

Negativ: There was no staff for any issues.

Negativ: Tv didn’t work in the room and Ensuite was down the corridor through communal lounge which wasn’t outlined in advertising.

Negativ: We had the king deluxe but the bed was very small for two people and very uncomfortable.

Positiv: Clean comfortable rooms and the use of a huge kitchen and lounge.

Negativ: My daughter didn't have the use of the bathroom as the only one on the ground floor was piled high with laundry to the point that you couldn't shut the door!

Positiv: Room 2 which I booked has a bathroom situated in a hallway with a lounge separating the rooms, not in any description that I read, the allocated bathroom is numbered 2a, confusing if you hadn't been before, however the room and facilities were very good and value for money and I would return.

Positiv: The bed was excellent, had the best nights sleep in the last 2 years(maybe because my little one was so tired and slept through the night :)), our host was happy to help and tell us what's worth seeing and very close to the beach

Positiv: Das einzig Positive an dieser Unterkunft war die Lage zur Konzerthalle, weshalb wir überhaupt dort waren. Dafür, dass die Unterkunft sehr ungemütlich war, war es doch verhältnismäßig sauber, um auch etwas Positives zu nennen.

Negativ: Diese Unterkunft war absolut unterirdisch. Wir hatten ein Drei-Bettzimmer gebucht. Wir fanden eine Rumpelkammer vor mit Möbeln aus dem letzten Jahrhundert wild zusammengewürfelt.Auf dem Sperrmüll findet man fast noch brauchbarere Möbel, als in dieser Unterkunft. Die Matratzen hingen durch und man lag im Bett wie in einer Hängematte. Die Bettwäsche war genauso zusammengewürfelt aus Blümchen-Mustern, Rüschen und bunten Bettlaken von allem etwas dabei. Genauso sahen auch die Handtücher aus. Steckdosen Fehlanzeige, Zimmer kaum abschließbar, Frühstück gab es keines und wir mussten bis spätestens 10:30 Uhr die Unterkunft verlassen was auch nicht länger nötig war. Also mich wird diese Unterkunft nicht mehr sehen.

Positiv: It was ideal for over night stay comfortable plenty tea and coffee facilities little kitchen to.use for washing up and fridge that was good had to store my son special milk so thumbs up very friendly staff

Negativ: It was a shame no breakfast facilities would of been good but not a problem a bit of a walk to the pier

Negativ: It was not clean, not value of money. The bathroom was awful and bed and sheet was dirty. Absolutely disappointing.
